The next day Jared and Willa met up in Costa after school, and Jared paid for Willa’s black coffee and chocolate muffin because apparently (according to Isaac the Oracle of Everything), that’s what you do on dates. She smiled at that, and didn’t even make fun of him for ordering a Belgian chocolate frappuccino complete with cream.

“How was your day?” she asked as they sat down, and it was slightly awkward at first but it still made his heart race and in the end the conversation turned as easy as always. Neither of them mentioned the almost-kiss till they left two hours later and stood outside paused before parting ways.

“Jared-” she began, at the same time as he said,

   “Hey Willa-”

    She laughed, and he grinned.

    “You go first.”

“We’re so fucking romcom-cliché,” she said, smiling and rolling her eyes. “I was just gonna ask- well, I know I told Isaac – I don’t know if he said – that I’ve just got out of a shitty relationship, and like, that’s true, but. I feel kinda like we should give this a shot. You and me, I mean. If you want.”

    His grin grew wider.

“I definitely want,” he said reassuringly, and leant his head down to kiss her.
