Violet Ankamah's POV.
"Yeah, you can bring them in as soon as you're done. Thank you" I say to Kayla down the phone.
I'm sifting through some paperwork, and I've managed to get a lot done.
I put the phone down and I continue to work.
I'm in a great mood.
I spent my weekend with Aaliyah and Orion.
And tonight is my date plan for Orion and I.
I'm taking him somewhere fancy and I really hope he likes it.
And I have a present for him too...
I hope I'm not moving too fast.
A knock pulls me out of my thoughts.
"Mhm?" I respond dreamily.
The door opens, and Kayla walks through.
"Are you ready for your reports, Doctor?" She asks.
I nod.
"Go ahead" I say, looking down at my work as I continue to read, not glancing up.
She starts to read them out, and I listen, while signing another file.
As I put the file to the side, I look up at her.
Wait.
Something is off.
Very off.
I narrow my eyes.
"Kayla, are you okay?" I ask her. She looks up at me.
"Mhm. Yeah I'm fine, doc" she responds.
She looks pale.
"Come here" I tell her.
She walks up to me, stumbling a bit as she does.
My face falls.
"Are you drunk?" I ask her.
Her head snaps to me.
"What? No, doctor I'm not drunk" she mumbles, rubbing her face.
"I was just feeling unwell over the weekend. Throwing up and such. I'm fine now though" she says.
Throwing up?
Wait.
Throwing up?!
I scan her from head to toe.
She's gained a little weight.
Her hair is longer than before.
I recently heard her complaining to the receptionist about feet pains and early morning sickness.
"Kayla" I choke.
Her eyes widen upon hearing me use her first name, for the first time in two months.
She sees my grip on the desk tightness I look into her eyes.
"I think you might be pregnant" I tell her.
She looks at me as if I'm crazy.
"Impossible!" She says.
I unlock the draw in front of me, rifling through it.
I knock the engagement ring box from Zahair out of the way and I find what I'm looking for.
A pregnancy test.
When me and Zahair decided we wanted kids, I would take these tests frequently.
