Not alone anymore

Chapter 37

Zelena and I sit there quietly and listen to Regina's side of the conversation. After about 20 minutes she hangs up the phone, sits back and lets out a deep breath.  "Everything alright babe?"   "I'm not sure my love. It seems like my mother has a very questionable past and it's everything from blackmailing, all the way to accessory to murder but unfortunately there was not enough evidence against her to bring charges".   "Murder, Regina are you saying that our mother has been in cahoots with people that had committed murder?"   "Yes that's exactly what I'm saying Zelena and it's multiple people over the years. So many people have gone missing and mother's name is somewhere involved. My lawyer told me that his people will dig deeper into everything to find some evidence. He has great private investigators. I told him, well you heard me say to hire more, the best he trusts".  Zelena says. "Wow Regina I was definitely not expecting this. I figured mother did some shady things but this is very surprising".   "Yeah babe it's definitely a surprise. Is your lawyer sure his people can come up with something when the police couldn't?"   "I was thinking the same thing, he assures me that his people don't have the same rules as the police and that they don't need warrants for things like wire taps and to dig into peoples secrets and bank accounts".   "Wow. I hope this really works out babe".   "Me too sis. Mother deserves everything she has coming to her".  I smile at Zelena but she won't even look at me. Oh well. we all leave the office and go sit in the living room.  Regina and I sit on the couch and I hold her. She looks so tired.  "Are you hungry babe?"  With her head on my shoulder she says. "Not really dear. We did have a big breakfast just a few hours ago".
Regina's lawyer called at least twice a day with an update. All they could come up with so far was mostly misdemeanor things that the judge would probably throw out of court. About a week and a half later Regina and I were taking a nap when I heard a knock at our bedroom door. Regina was sleeping so I carefully got out of bed and answered the door. It was Zelena just as I thought it would be. "Sorry to bother you. The lawyer is here and he says he has something very important to tell Regina".   "Ok thanks. I'll wake her and we'll be down in a few minutes".  She nods and leaves as I close the door. I walk over to Regina's side of the bed and sit down. I give her a kiss on the forehead and then her lips. I speak quietly so I don't startle her.  "Regina. Babe. You need to wake up".   "Hmmm".  "Baby I'm sorry to wake you. Your lawyer is here and Zelena told me that he has something very important to tell you".  She rolls on her back, stretched and yawned.  She opens her eyes a little and looks at me. "Emma?"  "Yeah babe. You need to wake up now".  She closes her eyes and stretches again. She opens her eyes wide and says. "I don't know if I want to hear what he has to say Emma. It's been almost 2 weeks and they've barely come up with anything".  "I know sweetheart but if it's very important it must mean they found something. So come on let's get up and go see what he has to say".  She nods so I stand up and she starts to get out of bed. I help her stand up and she gives me a hug. "I'm going to the bathroom to freshen up and then I'll change my love. I'll be right back". She gives me a kiss and goes into the bathroom. I take my sweatpants off and put my jeans and sneakers back on. I'm already wearing a sports bra and a t-shirt. Regina comes out and starts to change into some jeans and a clean top. "Ok my love let's get this over with".  We kiss and hold hands as we walk downstairs to hear what the lawyer has to say.  We get to the living room and there are 3 men I've never seen before. They all stand when we walk in. The man that I'm assuming is Regina's lawyer shakes her hand. Regina introduces me to him and he shakes my hand. He then introduces us to the men with him. We shake their hands then we all sit down and Regina holds onto my hand. It turns out the men are his top private investigators.  Zelena, Regina and I all listen to what the men have to say. It turns out that they were able to get a lot of dirt on Cora.  The head PI used to be and FBI agent so he contacted his old partner. It seems they have been working on trying to catch Cora on something also. Between the two they shared some information that could be helpful. They have been trying to find someone who may have been a witness to a murder that Cora ordered and she was there when it happened. They told us that they had a few leads to finding this person within the next day or two. We were also told that they have some evidence of blackmail, extortion, conspiracy to murder and hiring a hit man.  After we were told everything the men shook our hands again and left. The 3 of us just sat there quietly. I think we were all in a little bit of a shock. We knew Cora had done terrible things but to actually hear it and to know they are gathering evidence is a lot to take in. Regina squeezes my hand a bit. I ask.  "Are you ladies ok?"   "Would you be ok Emma if you found out that your mother was nothing but a murdering criminal?"  "Well I never had a mother Zelena but I guess I would be having a lot of mixed emotions right now".  All Zelena said was. "I need a drink".  She gets up and starts to walk into the kitchen. "I'm sure she didn't mean to sound so bitchy dear. We knew mother was into certain illegal activities but to this extent it's just almost scary in a way to know that it's my mother that did this. That ordered the deaths of who knows how many people".  "I'm sorry babe I can't even imagine what's actually going on inside yours and Zelena's head".  We could hear Zelena  walking back into the living room with a glass of wine. As she sits down she looks at me and apologized.  "I'm very sorry that I was snippy a few minutes ago. I didn't mean to take my frustrations with my mother out on you".  "I forgive you and thank you for the apology.  I already said to Regina that I can't imagine what's going on in your heads right now".   "Got that right blondie".  She takes a big drink of her wine.  Over the next few days we really didn't do much. Which kinda sucked because Regina and I should be happy and celebrating being married but instead all we are doing is sitting around the house or out on the patio. It's not even relaxing because the sisters are on edge waiting to hear about what's been going on. Every night when the lawyer calls all he says is that they are still working very hard. They think they have a location on the witness now they just need to find him. I know it's really stressing Regina out and it's not good for her or the baby, and it's starting to piss me off a little but I'm trying to hide it.  One late afternoon the 3 of us are sitting on the patio when Zelena gets up. "I'm going for another iced tea. You two want anything?"   "Sure Z. I'll have one please. Me too sis. Thank you".   "Ok I'll just bring the rest of the pitcher out and more ice".  We smile at her and she leaves.  "Emma I'm so sorry we haven't been able to celebrate our honeymoon yet and I'm sure it puts a damper on wanting to be intimate whenever we want to".   "It's ok babe I just hope this isn't stressing you out to much".    "I will be honest dear it does feel like it's taking a toll on me".  "Gina lets go away for like 2 days or only tonight. Maybe we can get you a massage and a relaxing dinner. Oh how does chilling out in a whirlpool bath sound?  We could both sit in there and relax for a while and it's not to hot for the baby".   "Emma it does sound so great but I really feel like I should be here".  "Oh come on babe it's just one night. You can text your lawyer and tell him to call you on the cell phone if anything new happens. I promise we won't be that far away".   "No Emma I'm sorry. Right now isn't the right time".   "Oh come on Regina it's one damn night".   "Emma Swan don't raise your damn voice to me".   "I'm sorry Regina but this shit is ridiculous".   "Ok kids what could have happened in the 4 minutes I was gone?"   Zelena ask as she walks in.  "It's nothing Zelena".  "Yes it is Regina. I want to take her away to help her relax for just one night and she won't go. I promised we could stay close but still no. All this stress isn't good for her or the baby".   "That's all you care about isn't it Emma?  That the baby is ok".   "That's not true at all Regina. This could hurt you also. High stress could cause severe depression, high blood pressure and even a heart attack. I'm just concerned for you".   "You should listen to the blonde one Regina. At least I'm able to have some wine. Your stuck with iced tea".  She smiles as she takes a sip of her own tea.  "No I'm not listening to either one of you. Now if you'll excuse me I'd like to be alone".   She takes her glass and leaves Zelena and I on the patio".  "Damn it".   "She's taking this hard Emma. You can't blame her. Mother treater terribly. She's probably realizing it could have been a lot worse. Like she could have ended up a murder victim".   "I can respect how she may feel but I'm so worried about her. I love her Zelena and I don't want to lose her. We just got married and we can't even enjoy it. There is a hotel right over the town line that I wanted to take her to. It's only a 20 minute drive from this house. Zelena I'm so worried. What do I do?"   She grabs onto my hand and says.  "Let me talk to her. I'll do the best I can to try to convince her".   "Thank you".  She smiles at me, picks up her iced tea and walks into the house to find Regina.  She finds her in the living room on the her cellphone.  "Ok yes. Thank you very much for all your help".  She ends her call and says to her sister.   "I don't want to hear it Zelena. I need to talk to Emma".  She gets up and walks out and over to towards the patio.  From the corner of my eye I see her walk through the door and she sits in the chair next to me that she was in earlier.  I didn't look at her because I didn't want to piss her off anymore.  "I owe you an apology Emma. You are right. I am definitely stressed out. When I went inside and sat on the couch, I started shaking and it really scared the hell out of me".  I start to panic and turn to her. I grab her hands and say.  "Baby are you ok, should I call your doctor?"   "Please calm down my love. I'm fine. I already called my doctor. She wants to see me in an hour. She's making a personal stop by here to check on me".   "Oh god babe. This sounds serious".   "No sweetheart I promise. I told her what was going on and she thinks I definitely need to get away for a little bit. Even if it's just overnight. I'm sorry I got angry my love. I just really want this to come to an end as soon as possible".  "I forgive you babe. No worries. Are you feeling any better now?"   "Yes I am. Could you please come upstairs with me to help me freshen up for when my doctor arrives?"   I lean in and kiss her. "I'd be happy to babe. Let's go".  We smile and kiss once more and we walk up to our bedroom. We take a shower together. I really want to start more in this shower but we can't because Regina's doctor will be examining her.  Hopefully later we can really, well you know, be a little intimate".  We just wash each other and enjoy the hot water.  When we were done, we dried each other off, got dressed and went downstairs to wait for the doctor to arrive.
