When I'm downstairs I start out in the kitchen. I make sure all the food is wrapped up tight and I put it all in the refrigerator for later. I put all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, add the soap pods and start the machine. I spray all the counters with the disinfectant cleaner. I take a few paper towels and make sure I get any crumbs or sticky spots on our kitchen island and then do the same with the counters by the sink and the stove. I double checked everything and it all seems nice and clean. The dishwasher is still going so I get 2 bottles of water out of the refrigerator, I shut off the kitchen lights before I leave the room and go into the living room. I put my bottle of water on the coffee table and I look outside and see the grill I still out. It should be cool by now. Before I go out to take care of the grill I run upstairs with the water to check on my wife. She's still sleeping soundly so I just leave her alone. I put the bottle of water on her nightstand. I smile and kiss her cheek. "I love you sweetheart". I kiss her cheek again then I leave to go put the grill away. I do need to wake Regina up soon though, her and the baby need to eat. Once I come in from putting the grill away I decide to call Dr. Crane. I dial her office but of course it's closed and my message goes to voicemail. In my message I leave mine and Regina's name and ask for the doctor to call me back because I need to speak to her and ask her a question. I end the call and finally drink some of my water. I put the water back on the coffee table. I sit back and let out a big yawn. I try to get comfortable then a few minutes later the house phone rings. I answer it quickly. It's Dr. Crane. "Oh hey Doc. Thanks for calling back so quickly". "Is everything ok Emma?" "Yes I think so. Regina is up taking a nap. We walked around the backyard like you suggested, we took a simple shower together. I swear nothing happened. It was just a shower". The doctor laughed and said. "It's ok Emma I believe you. What did you and Regina do after the shower?" "Well she wanted a nice back massage so how could I tell my wife who is pregnant with my child no? I set her up in a perfect spot and started the massage. When I was done I had to wake her up and help her into bed". "Has Regina felt anymore discomfort or contractions that you know of?" "Well Doc, after our little walk and the shower, along with the massage, I don't think she was feeling anything other than being tired". I say with a little laugh. "Well then, that's great Emma. At least Regina was very relaxed". "Yes Doc she definitely was. If you have a few more minutes I have something to run by you and I'd really like your opinion". "Alright Emma go for it". "Well I want to take Regina camping for a few days, it's not as bad as you think. It's just a place to relax. I found an awesome place only 30 minutes from here. There is a hospital just 2 miles away and they have a certified medical staff on the camp grounds. Plus they have all kinds of rentals. Tents to actually do the roughing it type of camping, all the way up to the most luxurious type of camping you can imagine. They have electricity, full kitchen, bathroom, AC/ heat and queen sized bed". "Emma that actually sounds wonderful. You'll have to let me know how it was". "Well Doc honestly Regina is a little apprehensive about going away and I only have a week left of my vacation and I really want to make sure my wife relaxes, and what better way to relax than a luxurious retreat, especially after those damn Braxton Hicks contractions". "How does Regina feel now?" "Well she's actually still taking a nap". "Ok well in my medical opinion as long as she's not in any pain or discomfort I'd say she shouldn't have any problem to go away for a little while as long as she doesn't push herself. No carrying anything heavy and no walks for long periods of time". "So you are giving the ok?" "Yes I am but if anything should arise call the medical staff immediately". "No worries I definitely will have them there". "Great. If you have any more questions just give me a call". "I will thanks Doc". I felt better about Regina and I possibly going away now. I start up my laptop and when it's ready I go to the camp website. I get the number and dial the office to ask a few questions. As I'm on the phone Regina comes walking into the living room and sits next to me. She sees the website I'm on and she can figure out what my conversation is about. She doesn't seem to happy about it from the look on her face. I thanked the woman that was helping me and I said said I'd call back as soon as I talk to my wife. I end my call and say. "Hey babe did you enjoy your nap?" "It was fine dear. Would you like to tell about that phone call you were just on?" "I will in a few minutes. I want to tell you I called Dr. Crane a little while ago. I told her that you and I took a walk in the backyard then had a nice shower and I also told her that I gave you a relaxing back massage". Regina smiles at that part. "She asked if you were having any more contractions. I told her no. Then I asked her about going to this camping place for a few days to relax. I told her all about it and she thought it was fine to go as long as you take it easy and don't lift anything heavy". "She was actually ok with this". "Yes. She says the place sounds great, she even wants me to tell her how we like it". "Oh Emma I don't know. I really think going camping right now isn't the best idea. I think we should just stay home". "So you don't want me to tell you anything about this place?" "Emma dear it's just not the right time". I'm disappointed but really, what can I do? I exit out of the website and shut down my laptop. I put it on the coffee table and ask. "Are you hungry? I could fire up the grill again". "No it's a little late for that. Maybe we could just have a pizza delivered". "A pizza sounds great. What kind are we ordering?" "Well I would love a veggie pizza but I know you hate that". "It's ok we can get a half veggie and the other half I'll get pepperoni". "Really you don't mind?" "Nope. It's fine. Just the pizza or do you want something else to?" "Oh yes. Onion rings please". "Sure. You got it. I'll make the order now". She kisses my cheek and says thank you. I open the app for the pizza place on my phone. I start the order and choose delivery. I pay through the app and it's all set. "Ok the order is in and they will text me when it's on the way". "Excellent. I can't wait. I hope it won't take to long". I just smile. A few minutes later I ask. "It's a nice evening out would you like to eat outside and get some fresh air?" "Well I was hoping we could watch some tv tonight". "Oh ok. That's fine to". Nothing more was said till I got the text tell me that our delivery was on the way. "Our stuff should be here soon. I'm gonna have some iced tea and get the plates and napkins. Can I get you anything?" "Yes. I'd like an iced tea also dear". "Coming up". I smile and go to the kitchen. I take out the plates and get a bunch of napkins. I grab 2 glasses, put some ice in them and fill them with the tea from the refrigerator. I carefully carry everything into the living room. Regina takes the plates and napkins from me so I can put the glasses down. "Thank you dear". Just then the door bell rings and I go to answer it. I tip the delivery guy, take my order and go bring it into the living room. Regina hands me a plate with a few napkins. I open the pizza box as Regina goes for the onion rings. "Oh gosh these are yummy. There is just something about greasy onion rings that make the baby incredibly happy. Would you like some dear?" "No thanks Regina. You know I only like the batter around it anyway. I don't want to waste it when I know how much you wanted them". I take a bite of my pepperoni pizza and she hands the batter part of an onion ring. I smile and take it while Regina eats the onion part and starts to laugh. "What's so funny?" "We are quite a pair aren't we? I'm willing to part half of a delicious onion ring and just eat the onion while you enjoy the fried batter part. That must be love Emma". "Yeah that sounds about right". She leans in to kiss me but I make it end quickly. She has a surprised kind of look on her face but I just take a bite of my pizza as she continues with her food. After she takes a bite of her pizza she picks up the remote and begins to look for something to watch. She asked if some reruns of Law & Order SVU is ok. It was from the 3rd season which is one of my favorites so I was fine with it. Halfway through the episode titled "Greed". It has Henry Winkler who played The Fonz on the 1970s tv show Happy Days but I really wasn't paying that much attention to it. I had 3 slices of pizza and Regina gave me a few more of the fried batter outer layers of the onion rings. I put my plate on the coffee table and sit back on the couch. "Damn I'm full. How you doing over there Regina?" "Everything we got was very tasty dear. I enjoyed it". "Mmmm. Ya it was great. Are you done with the pizza because I'll take everything into the kitchen?" "Yes dear. Thank you". She leans in to kiss me and again I end it quickly. "I'm glad you enjoyed everything. I'm gonna take all this into the kitchen and put it away". She seems disappointed but gives a small smile. I get up, gather everything and take it all to the kitchen. There were 3 veggie slices left and 1 slice of pepperoni. Of course there we no onion rings left. I also brought my empty glass that I had the iced tea in with me to the kitchen. I added a few more ice cubes and then refilled it with the iced tea. I walk back into the living room and Regina asks. "Is everything all set in the kitchen dear?" "Yup. The pizza in closed ziplock bags, there is even more iced tea in the fridge". "Thats wonderful dear. Thank you". I smile at her. "I paused the show while you were in the kitchen putting everything away. Are you ready to continue with the episode now?" "Well if you don't mind, I'm gonna go sit out on the patio for a while and get some fresh air". "Well, no I guess I don't mind but I was hoping we could cuddle together for a while". "I promise I won't stay outside long. I just want to listen to some music and look up at the stars". "Alright my love, if that's what you'd really like to do then go for it". I think she knows that I'm really disappointed and although I don't mean to, I think I have been treating her differently. I caress her cheek and kiss her lips. We both smile at each other and I get up, grab my glass and my phone so I can listen to my music. "Ok babe I'll be right outside if you need me". She smiles and nods and presses play on the remote control to watch more of the SVU Episode. I take a seat at the patio table, open my music app, press play and sit back and relax. About a half hour later Regina came outside and sat in the chair next to me. When the song that was playing ended Regina began speaking. "I can tell your upset with me Emma". "I'm not upset, a little disappointed maybe but I'm not upset". "I'm sorry about that my love but it's just not the right right time". "I'm not trying to start an argument but I just have to know. Is it not the right time because you just don't want to go to a camp ground or are you scared that you'll have more contractions?" "Well I won't lie, the thought of more contractions is on my mind and for that reason I believe the best place is here at home". "Even though Dr. Crane said you shouldn't worry much about going because they have a great medical staff and very comfortable accommodations". "Are you saying I have no right to be worried? This is our first child Emma and neither of us really knows what to expect". "I understand that sweetheart and you have every right to be concerned about anything you want. I just hope that this concern doesn't confine you to this house and nothing else". "And if it does Emma, then what? Would that be to much for you to handle?" "I know where you are going with that question Regina and I don't like it so I'm not going to answer it, but if your to afraid to leave the house because something may happen the I would suggest that you talk with Dr. Crane. Maybe she can help put your mind at ease a bit". "Ok and you don't want to answer my other question?" "Nope". That's all I say as I pick up my glass of iced tea and take a sip. "Why don't you want to answer it Emma?" "Because I said right from the beginning that I wasn't trying to start an argument. All I wanted was to have a conversation that's all". "And are you satisfied with the outcome of that conversation?" "For the most part yes". "Ok so what do you think we should do about it?" "Well I think you should talk with Dr. Crane". "So you think I'm crazy". "Regina where in this whole conversation did you hear me use the word crazy?" She just gives me the evil eyes. "Babe please listen to me. Since we started dating everything was really beyond difficult for us. After we got married it was the same and probably even more stressful especially because of your mother, and then adding on the pregnancy and the continued stress from your mothers trial and earlier with Brax Hix contractions. Babe it's no wonder that you don't wanna leave the house. I wouldn't want to either". "First of all Emma it's called Braxton Hicks contractions and secondly I'm not crazy and I'm not scared". She plops down in the chair next to me and let's out a big sigh. "Babe I've loved you from the first time I heard your heals clicking against the floor, and holy shit, the first time you walked into the classroom. I saw you and I knew I wanted you, and it wasn't just in a lusty way. I wanted to know you. You had such a bitchy side and I wanted to see what was beyond. For years I never stopped wanting that or you. The only time I remember I wanted to forget it all was when I thought you and that creep were hooking up". Finally I see a little smile. "I love when your smile babe. Please don't take this conversation the wrong way. I love you. I always have and I always will. I just want you to be happy, safe and comfortable. Especially now. It's time to get a way for a few days while we're still on vacation. Let's enjoy the nature and the beautiful outdoors. Please just call your doctor". She leans in to kiss me then says. "I'm sorry I got a little cranky my love. Your right about everything. I don't know why I'm so nervous to go. I did actually look at the website when you came out here and it really does look like a nice place. I'll call the doctor my love". We look at the time and it's still early so Regina uses my phone and calls the doctor.
