Chapter Nineteen: Heartbreaker

DENISE POV

It's been two months since I left DeVante and whilst I'm still Creative Director at Uptown, I'm actually working outside the label as a songwriter! Zoelle and I are living in Chicago right now, and it's treating us very very well. I haven't seen or spoken to DeVante, but word is going around that he is looking to work things out with me. Part of me misses him, but the other part of me feels dark, ugly, and angry about what happened that night.

I'm actually working with an R&B trio called TLC, and they are sweethearts! Their label asked me to write and co-produce their album, CrazySexyCool. I have no problem with that at all, believe me! My childhood friend Reign babysits Zoelle when we work late in the studio. Like tonight, when the ladies and I were writing a song, "Diggin' On You." T-Boz wrote a majority of this song, partially because of how she felt about Mr. Dalvin! This is our last night together because I have to tour with Jodeci in the morning.

I was going over some other material with Chilli when I caught Left-Eye's nosey ass going through my notebook. I tried to get it from her, but she got the upper hand.

Me: Goddamn it, give it up Lisa!

Left-Eye: "You Used to Love Me"? Is this for us?

Me: I thought about it, but this I wanna keep for myself.

T-Boz: Let's hear you sing!

Chilli & Left-Eye: YEAH!!!

Me: No, this isn't about me, let's---

TLC: Please!?

I sighed and went into the recording booth. As soon as that music dropped, I just sang like a canary.
