(This is part 2 of Countdown!)

Your heart clenched as you walked away, but you knew you were doing the right thing. Soulmate or not, Tyrion was married and, while there was no love between him and his wife, you knew that if anything happened, they would both be in danger of Joffrey's wrath. It was knowing that you were keeping him safe that made it easier for you to leave. Maybe someday the world would be different. Maybe in another life you and Tyrion could truly be soulmates, but for now, you would do what was best for him and his safety, no matter how badly your own heart was breaking.

You sat up in your bed with tears gathering in your eyes. You'd lost count of how many times you'd had that same dream. The dream of meeting your soulmate and not being able to be with him. It seemed to occur almost every night since you made the move to your new home. The funny thing was that you had never even met anyone that looked or sounded like the man in your dream. You hadn't even come close to meeting your soulmate.

Shaking your head, you climbed out of bed and prepared to take a shower. It was your first day in a new job. You had no time to ponder a dream that probably meant nothing. So, you went about your business getting ready and left your new home exactly when you meant to. You felt confident and ready to take on anything at least until you stood in front of the building.

Lannister Inc. looked far more imposing now than it had when you came in for the interview. The man who conducted your interview, Jaime Lannister, was easy going enough, but you weren't working directly with him. Just under him. You were, however, working directly with Jaime's younger brother Tyrion. As you entered the building on shaky legs, you wondered what type of man Tyrion would be. Would he be a joy to work with or would he be a complete stick in the mud?

That question was answered for you when you were greeted with a smile and flirtatious wink when you walked in the room. "You must be Y/N. Jaime told me you were starting today." You smiled back. "I am. You must be Tyrion." He nodded his head and offered his small hand to you. With only a little hesitation, you took his hand.

The moment your skin met his, you could almost feel yourself being dragged back in time. To another life. Your dream played out in front of you in full detail, from beginning to end, from the moment past you had met past Tyrion, until the day you died. Alone and without your soulmate. You also watched his life playing out, almost like a ghostly overlay of your own. It wasn't pleasant. Tears welled again as you were brought back to present time.

You glanced down at Tyrion to find him already looking up at you. His eyes, too, were filled with tears. He dropped your hand and took a step away. "I'll be right back. Please...don't move," he practically begged before turning on his heel and hurrying away as quickly as he could. Meanwhile, you stood there in the middle of the office wondering what the hells just happened. You'd finally been reunited with your soulmate in this life, but were you going to be able to be with him or were you doomed no matter which life you were in?

You could feel eyes on you as you tried to dry your tears. You wanted to run and hide, just to get away from the attention. Fortunately, Tyrion appeared a moment later with Jaime at his side. "Don't you all have work to do? I'm certain Ms. Y/L/N doesn't appreciate the staring," Jaime said, although his tone gave no room for argument.

He then turned his attention to you and grinned. "So, not exactly how you pictured your first day, is it?" You shook your head still unable to really speak. You let your gaze fall to Tyrion. His expression was a mix of awe, joy, and perhaps a little anger. You didn't blame him. The two of you had missed out on an entire lifetime together because of you.

"That's alright," Jaime continued, "I'm sending you and Tyrion out for the morning to work through this. There's no work here that can't wait until this afternoon." You wanted to argue, but you knew you'd never get any work done if you and your soulmate didn't talk things out. Tyrion didn't say anything as the two of you left the building and made your way to the coffee house down the street.

It wasn't until you had ordered your (f/d) and sat down that Tyrion finally spoke. "I was never able to find you." You bit your lip. "I-I know. You were married. I couldn't. I told you that." Tyrion hummed in response as he took a drink. He made a sour face, making you bite back a giggle. "You're not a coffee drinker, are you?"

"Not a tea drinker either. I prefer wine, but as my brother so often tells me, ten in the morning is a bit early to indulge." You actually did laugh at that. "I say screw social convention. Sometimes you just need a drink." Tyrion smiled at you for a moment before you frowned.

"Are you angry with me?" you asked. Tyrion thought for a moment. "No. I'm angry with myself. I'm angry that I didn't fight harder for you when we discovered that we were soulmates. I should have broken off the marriage to Sansa immediately. I'm angry that I didn't try harder to find you, both in that life and this one. We missed out on what could have been the best thing ever happened to either of us."

You gave the man in front of you a sad smile. "Maybe, but maybe not. We're free in this life. No social standards to conform to. No hierarchy. No higherborn or lower born. In this life, we're simply Tyrion and Y/N. Are you married? Not all cultures wear rings do I can't really tell by looking at you." Tyrion shook his head, making your smile widen into a genuinely happy one.

Tyrion slowly reached over and placed his smaller hand over yours. A feeling you couldn't explain coursed through your veins. "Tyrion, I would like to get to know you. In this life where I don't have to be your servant. I want the chance to be your friend. Your confidante. I want the chance to fall in love with you, if you'll let me have that," you began to ramble until Tyrion's chuckle cut you off.

"Y/N, I have wanted nothing more for two lifetimes. How about dinner? Tonight at my place?" You almost felt giddy as you agreed. After finishing your drink, you and Tyrion left the coffee shop to head back to the office. There were smiles painted on both of your faces that wouldn't leave for the rest of the day. Finally, no more countdowns. no more waiting. There was nothing to come in between you and your soulmate.
