Heartbeat
The drum in my chest plays loudly
The beat matching my steps
My breaths are short and sharp
Just one more lap to go
I can hear cheering from afar
I can see small hands clapping
The giggling bubbling in a chest
Along with a heart which used to beat with mine
Beside that child stood a man,
A man whose heart i hold
Though i do not own it alone
With our child it is shared
My heart beat faster,
The determination and love driving me
Those who were behind me ran quicker
As the distance between us shortened
My heartbeat rang in my ears now
As my eyes focused on the finish line
One step at a time, closer and closer
Until my foot crossed the line
The sound of my heartbeat wasn't enough to drown out the cheers
The grin on my face emt with the tears
My family came and we laughed happily
I won the race and kept my pace
