Over the next few days, things had settled into a great routine with Michael and Kayla. Something they never had before. 

During the week, he would take her to school, and pick her up, too, when he didn't have to be on base. 

Michael would come over and eat dinner every night at the Admiral's house. Then, on weekends, they would hang out with Deshawn, Angela, nephew Jaden and Johnathon.

Michael had also relinquished the reigns from Angela regarding accompanying Kayla to her doctor appointments.

Kayla had remained good friends with Kian. At first Michael didn't like it, but he learned to accept her friendship with Kian. 

And there was always his guaranteed comfort, that if Kian crossed the line with Kayla, he would break one of his tiny-muscular arms...or legs...or something. 

But Michael didn't have to openly threaten Kian, because Kian always kept his distance with Michael anyway, when he was around. Michael appreciated that, considering that's more than Khris punkass ever gave him. But despite that, Michael couldn't remember a time that he had ever been this happy.
