The story goes that Hermione and Y/n had been a couple, and it wasn't much of a story because it was the truth. They were a couple, they thrived together, both were smart and the brightest in their houses. But that wasn't enough for Y/n, no no, she had a great girl like Hermione Granger and she took that for granted.

But it was really her own jealousy that ruined their relationship in the first place. Because it was true what most had to say; the relationship died months before they broke up. It was Hermione holding onto the final hope she had; she wanted them to last, but she knew it was foolish.

Well what was Y/n jealous of? Two words; Ronald Weasley. She knew Hermione used to have a crush on him, and that he did as well. It wasn't like Hermione would cheat, and Y/n banked on it, the possibility that she might wasn't even fathomable.

The story goes, and maybe it was just the rumors, that Y/n had cheated on her. And not just snogging, it shagging. During Christmas the pair had gotten into a fight about going to the Weasley's and it wasn't a problem except Ron had made out, he was going to have Hermione in his room for a week and she was fine with it. The stares he'd be giving her recently, she knew. Y/n couldn't help be get jealous.

Hermione ended up leaving without her and telling her she needed to get her head screwed back on. Hermione always did this, she always picked him over her, she always sided with him in everything!

The guilt of her cheating didn't hit until three days later, maybe what she did was justified, or maybe it wasn't. She was feeling unloved, under appreciated, she was sending letters and Hermione was ignoring them so she stopped sending them. In fact after she did what she did she stopped eating, stopped getting out of bed.

The only thought in her head was she wasn't enough, she never would be. But memories of when she was enough played back through her head. When they would run through the library and snog in the restricted section. Or the times they snuck off to the astronomy tower in the middle of the night.

They started replaying to remind her of her relationship, but she wasn't finding ways to remember, she was trying to find ways to find when it went wrong. But Hermione was always like this, she always choose Ronald, always. Looking back there wasn't a single fight she'd ever side with her on, Ronald, Ronald, Ronald.

There was one time when got knocked off her broom- she saved herself from falling but still- and Ronald did it on purpose, Hermione sided with him. That one hurt her because she could've got seriously hurt from it. Hermione sided with Ronald on everything, and it ate at her. It ate away any reassurance she had for her relationship.

Y/n tried to do things right for her, but it didn't matter. Their relationship died the moment Y/n realized Ronald was more important than she would ever be. Maybe Hermione was unhappy that ended up with her, maybe she wanted Ronald. Maybe all of this was for the better.

When Hermione got back, Y/n wasn't the first thing on her mind, she was still mad. Ronald was her best friend, and if Y/n didn't trust her she needed to just say so. Not get all mad and claim things, it was driving Hermione crazy! Ronald was her best friend he'd never do anything like that, not against Y/n. And Hermione didn't even know where Y/n got the idea from.

And she wasn't even back for an hour until everyone was telling her the big secret. Hermione was beyond mad, because not only had Y/n cheated, she got mad because she thought she would do the same thing!

"I'm sorry," Y/n muttered, she knew right away who was in the door way.

Hermione took a deep breath, her emotions overwhelming her, "That's it? A lousy bloody sorry!" she threw a book at her. "I love you, I wanted to be with you, and all I get is a sorry!" she threw her shoes next, and then some more books.

"'Mione will you fucking stop that," she said.

"Don't 'Mione me, you lair I hate you," she threw her ties next. Y/n stood up and walked towards her.

"Calm down, alright, be mad, hate me, do what you need to do but throwing things will only make you feel worse," Y/n wrapped her arms around the smaller girl. They both felt like this would be the last time they'd hug like this. "I am. Sorry I mean, I would tell you the reasons, but coming from my mouth they'd only sound like excuses," she whispered. Hermione was silently crying, she didn't want to let go of her, but she hurt her, broke her.

And if she was going to hate her, it was going to be in the morning, because she needed one more night. Y/n laid her down gently on the bed, pulling the blankets over her. She gently got in next to her, facing her, they just stared at each other, "We aren't gonna make it our we?" Hermione whispered.

"No baby, I don't think we are," she whispered back, "It was never in the cards for us."

"Why did you do it?"

"Hermione, that's not important."

"Why?"

"Because I am an asshole," she stated.

"No, we've been together for years, was it because of Ron?"

Y/n looked for anything to say, she didn't Hermione to feel at fault for her mistake, "because I wasn't enough?" Hermione cried.

"No, No, Hermione never that! Never that," she whispered, wrapping her arms around her. "You are more than enough."

"Then what was it?"

"I am just dumb is all, it had nothing to do with you," she lied.

"Was she worth it?"

"No, no she wasn't," she mumbled. "She wouldn't be worth it in a thousand lifetimes let alone just one, I don't know why I did, I wish I could tell you, and I know that sounds like a lousy excuse trust me baby I know, but I just, I don't know. But it wasn't you, you are enough, you are smart, pretty- you get it. I don't know if I was jealous or hurt, or both, it doesn't excuse my behavior, but we were both dumb to think we'd be forever."

"W-why?"

"You were made for Ron, not for me," she admitted, the tears rounding her eyes. "My arms weren't made for you, I don't think they were made for anyone. You are happier with him, you love him."

"There was never a him, it was always you," Hermione sobbed, she didn't love Ron, she didn't feel she could, "I want you, I-I love you."

"I'll make a deal with you, you stay here tonight, if you are gone in the morning I'll know, if you stay, we can work this out."

"P-promise me."

"What?"

"Promise me, just promise me if we work this out, we are forever."

"I promise," Y/n muttered.

The next morning Hermione had stayed. Love truly does win.
