seconds

to be honest
I don't ever want to miss one second of
looking out of the window and watching the snow peacefully fall to the ground
or laughing so hard my stomach hurts because my friends are so funny.

I don't ever want to miss one second of
reading another great book and getting lost between the lines
or diving into the deep cold blue water on a hot summer day.

I don't ever want to miss one second of
looking in the eyes of someone and falling in love
or seeing someone smile because they saw something beautiful at the side of the road.

I don't ever want to miss one second of
listening to my favorite song that reminds me of my favorite people and moments
or tasting the first bite of something I spend hours baking or cooking that turned out amazingly.

I don't ever want to miss one second of
writing lines that turn my thoughts into poetry
or looking up at the sky and admiring the beautiful colors and the countless stars at night.

I don't ever want to miss one of these seconds just because I was focusing on my maths homework
or because I was staring at a screen
or because I was lying in my bed overthinking
or because I was waisting time scrolling through my phone.

I don't ever want to miss one second of
living
just because I was too afraid to step out of my comfort zone,
asking for what I needed
and doing the things that actually make me happy.

I don't ever want to miss one second of
anything
because at the end of our lives
seconds can't be returned.
They're gone.
Forever.
