Abandoned Castle

The castle lord hath left it to his heirs,
But only because he fled in fearful haste.
His eldest tries to lead with strength,
His second heir hides within a shell,
And his daughter hath become hardened.

The lord had taught about a kind king,
And all his heirs believed in those tales,
But now one hates the tales and people,
Another believes many other tales too,
And the last? The last clings onto them.

"Make way, make way, the lord returns!"
That is a cry that shall never be heard.
A once noble seeming lord, now coward
Had ruled this small kingdom before,
But not as he should have when he reigned.

The daughter has grown into a woman of steel,
Who tears down any enemies that show themselves.
Her heart and soul have been filled with pain,
And she knoweth not how to let it all go.
She who is fair of face, hath a mighty wrath.

The second heir doth hide away in his shell,
And only ventures forth when all is safe and well.
He goeth only through the motions of his life,
And never seeks out anything, save it be safe.
He who once was so creative, hath now dulled.

The eldest heir tries to manage the collapsing land,
But hath no pillar of support to lean upon when weak.
He stays awake trying to fix that which is broken,
And is never satisfied with himself because of doubt.
He who once was happy and warm, is now cold.

The lady of the land doth search for her husband,
But she hath never found the man that she loved.
Her quiet hidden tears are noticed by her children,
And they weep with her for the lost hope and peace.
Only the lady of the castle keeps the land together.

The land hath become barren with the lack of rain,
That rain which is the gentle rain of softer love,
And has only received hail of the tough love given.
The lord is still in the castle, but he is truly gone.
When he left, he stole his family's happiness.
