Nighttime Thoughts

Tonight I lie awake with a weary mind.
Sleep is a dream I cannot quite yet reach,
As my mind is too focused on reviewing.

The day rushes by, over and over again.
I see my mistakes I failed to see before,
And I see how I could have done better.

Alas, it is too late now to make the choice.
I just get to lay here and think about the day,
Or I let my thoughts drift off to a person.

Either the day, or one of my few friends.
That is all I think about on this cold night.
If you read this, pal, I'm thinking about you.

I think of when we last talked about, my friend.
I can't help but wonder if that was the last time.
You might have died, or I might before we meet.

Life is cruel and fickle as is her friend Lady Luck.
I hope to see you again so we can talk some more.
Maybe some day, we will meet at the Pirate's Tree.
