The cells door aggressively slid opened and Robin felt her weak body being tossed like a rag doll in the cold moldy cell. She desperately crawled and squirmed her limp body against the cold pavement to the nearest corner. She felt the small chips of concrete and chipped pebbles scratching and cutting her bear skin as she moved slowly. Her ripped the old battered clothes that protected her body started to rip and tear as she set her weak body up against the wall. She clinched her blood soaked side and let out a weak and rough whimper.

"hay, you okay?" a young voice asked. Robin quickly sat up and saw a boy, he was maybe 15 or 16. His hair brown and fluffy. His eyes were stone cold blue and light bruises circled around them. He was curled up in a ball in the corner on opposite side of the cell.

"hay kid how did you get here?" she asked her voice rasped and she winced as she cleared her throat trying to gain some comfort or ease the pain in her throat.

He limped to Robin's side and leaned against the same wall. The two were shoulder to shoulder practically leaning on each other."i-I got here because I was on a mission... I'm guessing same as you? Your a Avenger right?" he said wincing. His eyes squeezed shut as he moved.

Robin looked over at him with putty. "wow I didn't realize they really start out this young. How old are you? Who do you work for?"

"sixteen. I used to work for Bruce Wayne now I kinda get  shuffle back and forth from him to dick Grayson"

"yeah, I know the two" she said with disgust. He looked over with question and almost shocked she new the two men.

"I used to date Grayson and Wayne was supposed to be a foster parent but I ran away" she told him.

"they make me feel like a weapon" the kid confessed. "at first I wanted to be a hero for the fame.... Now all I want to do is actually help people. And Wayne turned me into a weapon" he let a few tears lose. They fel down his cheeks burning his cuts and bruises.

"what's your name kid?" she asked softly.

"Jason" he cleared his throat. "Jason Todd"

"I'm Robin" she smiled at him.

Jason kinda smirked. "my code name is Robin... Well I'm Robin number two"
He looked over at her and spoke his mind. "I never liked the code name anyway"

"well, you can always pick your own. what would you want it to be?"

"red wing or red hood" he smiled. The name almost made him feel more power than he thought he had. "what's yours?"

"nightshade"

Jason looked over to Robin. "why are you here Robin?" he asked softly.

"I'm protecting some people" she spoke plainly.

"who is worth this much? Why would you give up your freedom and possibly your life?" he asked said but at the same time shocked.

"I have a family that I would do anything for... They've done so much for me... If they were to end up in here because of me.....I couldn't live with that"

He looked over to Robin. He saw bravery and pain all wrapped up in this girl. He didn't have a family to really call his own. Bruce Wayne wasn't much of one and neither was Dick. He wanted to know what it was like to have a mother to comfort him or to have a father to play football with or work on a car with. He wanted a little sibling to look up to him and go to him if they were scared. He just wanted to be part of something meaningful and bigger than he already had.

"what's your Family like?" he spoke with hurt in his voice.

She smiled to herself. Only the dysfunctional team she called family could make her smile even at the worst time. The team had their ups and downs but they always had each other's backs no matter how pissed they are at each other.

"I have an older brother named Bruce. He's one of  the best things I ever got in this world.... He's smart and the kindest man I know. He was always afraid of the hulk but I never was. He thinks he's not a good brother but he's the best thing I ever had. He protected me and always made me feel safe"

Jason nodded wanted her to continue. "my boyfriend Clint is probably the second best thing but at the same time he almost beats Bruce. Clint has always put me before him" she stated to tear up. Jason put his hand on top of hers in a act of comfort. "Clint has gotten hurt too many time because of me and he still sticks by my side... He's my true hero and I don't deserve it"

"sure you do, I just met you but I think you deserve every positive thing you got" he smiled.

"my best friend Tony is a pain in the ass but I love him like another brother. He's always there to comfort me and always there to make me smile.. Wanda and Nat are the same.."

Jason smiled. He admired how she spoke freely and full hearted about them. He looked down and started to cry again. He didn't want to be here he wanted to get himself and now Robin out of here. "you got any parents?" he asked suddenly.

"no.. My mother died the month I was born.. She died of leukemia" Robin let out a shaky breath. "I'm sorry kid, but my father is the one doing this to us"

Jason looked shocked. The old him would be angry and would blame her but now he was just scared and felt even worse for her.

"I'm sorry..... You deserve a loving father. A man should protect his daughter, not torture her"

"and my mom died when I was a baby too"

"the way I see it is this: the past can hurt but we can either run from it or learn from it.... In my case I've been running all my life. Your young and you shouldn't have to deal with this or run and be afraid" she told him

"I want to be a hero but there's always something stopping me" he admitted.

"if you truly want to be a hero.... If we get out of here I'll take to the Averagers compound and teach you to be a hero without feeling like a weapon" she told him.

He smiled. He felt relieved that someone cared enough to help him but at the same time he was afraid of how he was gonna get away from Bruce  Wayne and Dick Grayson. "thanks" he said.

"you could be me and Clint's Apprentice" she full heartily smiled this time.

Jason chuckled at the statement and nodded. He felt his eyes getting heavy now the last of his energy slowly dying. He carefully moved his body and laid on the concrete trying to get comfortable. Robin saw the struggle and gently moved his head and resting him on her lap. He head now comfortably using her legs as a pillow he slowly fell asleep feeling for the first time in a while comfort. Almost a motherly comfort.
