I sat in the car with Paxton as we drove down the busy streets back to Chicago. My dad hadn't called me even after Paxton and I called him more than 50 times, same with William. Paxton wanted to stay in New York and wait it out till they called but I was worried that something happened to them. The government might have found dad and who knows what they would do to him.

"Can you turn that down?" I asked Paxton.

He was dancing around while music played loudly throughout the car.

"After this song!" He yelled over the loud music.

I rolled my eyes and shut the whole radio off.

"Hey!" Paxton snapped.

"Shut up and drive." I replied as I looked down at my phone and texted my dad again.

"Why are you so mean to me?" Paxton questioned.

"Because I don't like you, I thought you knew this." I joked.

"I'm not talking to you anymore." Paxton said.

I laughed.

"Aw did I hurt your feelings?" I taunted.

Paxton looked at the road ahead trying to hold in his smile, trying to ignore me.

"Paxton Clark ignoring me? Ivy Moore? That's the first." I start. "You can't go a day without annoying me." I joked.

Paxton laughed.

"That's not true." He said.

"Yes it is." I replied.

"I do not-" Paxton gets interrupted by my phone going off.

I look down at my phone and see my dad's contact over the screen.

"It's my dad." I blurt out before answering.

"Dad?" I asked, worried.

"Ivy?" I hear my dad's deep voice.

I missed hearing his voice every morning yelling at me for sleeping in.

"Are you okay?" My dad questioned.

"Yeah I'm okay. Are you?" I replied.

"Yeah, I'm sorry for not calling back. I heard what happened to Randy? Did anything happen to you guys? Is Paxton alright." My dad sounded worried and stressed which scared me.

"Dad. We're alright. We were set up."

"What do you mean?"

"Randy wasn't a government worker. He was a normal man." I answered.

"What that makes no sense? Are you sure you went to the right place?"

"Yes. We went to his house and he was shot."

My dad went silent.

"Dad?" I asked.

"Ivy honey, I'll call you back okay?" He imparted.

"What? Dad-" My dad hung up before I could even finish my sentence.

I pulled my phone away from my ear and looked down at it.

"What happened?" Paxton asked.

"I don't know. He just ended it." I replied.

"That's weird." Paxton said.

I nodded.

"Are you gonna tell him we're coming back?" He asked.

"No. I didn't get the chance to. We'll just see them when we get there." I answered.

Paxton nodded and kept his eyes on the road.
