Paxton Clark

~~~~~~~~~~~
I sit down at the table and eat my chicken nugget as I flip through my book. I was at McDonald's since I was trying to hide out from William for the night.
"Paxton?" I hear her voice again.
Shit, my face.
"Hey, Ivy." I greet her as I stare down into my lap.
"What are you doing here so late?" She questions.
"Couldn't sleep." I lie.
"Can I sit here?" She asks.
"Sure." I tell her.
I couldn't say no to her.
"Are you okay?" She asks.
I nod but don't look up at her.
"Paxton?" She asks.
I don't say anything and keep my head down.
I feel her warm touch against my chin and she lifts her face up so I could see her. She stares at me and tries to process my face.
"What happened?" She finally says.
"It was nothing." I tell her.
She doesn't say anything and keeps her stare on me.
"Who did this to you, Paxton?" She questions.
I gulp.
"I'm fine, Ivy." I lie to her as I push her hand away from my face.
"Is this why you haven't been at school?" She asks.
There's no point in lying anymore. This girl is smart.
I nod.
She sighs before getting up and grabbing my arm. I quickly grab my book and follow her out of McDonalds.
"Where are you taking me?" I ask her as she leads me through the parking lot.
She finally stops once she reaches a black car. She pulls her keys out and unlocks the car.
"Get in." She demands.
I obey and get into the passenger seat.
We don't say anything the whole drive. We pull up onto my street and I frown.
"How do you know where I live?" I ask her.
"You live here?" She questions.
I nod.
We pull up to the house across from my house.
"You live across the street from me?" I ask her.
"I guess so." She answers as she turns the car and gets out.
I follow her inside her house, it's quiet inside and the lights are turned off.
"Come on." She tells me.
I follow her upstairs into her room. She locks the door behind her and I look around. There were posters around the room and a tall bookshelf filled with books.
"Sit on the bed." She tells me.
I sit on the edge of the bed as she walks into the bathroom and grabs something.
She walks back into the room and sits next to me. She places a bunch of makeup next to us and grabs the stuff she needs.
"What are you doing?" I ask her.
"You need to go to school, so I'm gonna help you cover up your cuts." She explains.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
I smile at her as she grabs a brush and dabs it against my cut. I wince in pain a little at the stinging.
"Sorry." She whispers.
"It's okay." I tell her.
I stared at how close her face was to mine as she continued to cover my cuts.
I reach my hand up to her face and caress my fingers against her cheek, her warm soft skin giving me chills.
She stops what she's doing and looks at me.
"Tesorina." I blurt out.
"What does that mean?" She asks.
"It's a secret." I tell her.
"I can keep a secret." She whispers.
"I'll tell you one day." I whisper.
She smiles at me.
I lean in and place a gentle kiss against her cheek.
"You're perfect, Ivy Moore." I whisper into her ear.
"There's no such thing as perfect." She says.
I stare into her eyes.
"I thought so too. That was until I met you." I tell her.
She smiles.
"Can I ask you something?" She questions.
"Depends." I tell her as I fall back onto her bed.
"Who did that to you?" She asks.
I look at her.
"Promise me you won't tell anyone." I tell her.
"Promise."
"My uncle." I say.
"Why?" She asks.
"He likes to get drunk a lot." I explain.
She doesn't say anything and scoots closer to me. She crosses her legs in front of her before gently grabbing my head and placing it on her lap.
I stare up at her and smile.
"Did you tell anyone?" She asks.
"No. I was too scared." I tell her.
She runs her fingers through my blonde hair.
"He ruined your book." I finally say.
"What?"
"The book you gave me with your annotations in it. He ripped it up. I tried my best to fix it up but it still looks pretty bad." I explain.
"It's fine. I don't care. I just don't want anything to happen to you." She tells me.
I smile up at her.
"Stay the night here." She says.
"It's fine. I'll go back, he's probably asleep right now." I tell her.
"No. Stay, please. I won't be able to sleep knowing you're with him." She says.
She needs to sleep. It's not healthy for her to sleep. I don't want her to worry about me.
"Okay." I agree.
She smiles at me.
