Ivy Moore

I flip through the pages of my book and start to sink deeper into the words. I was at the library to get some fresh air.

"What's up bookworm?" I hear a familiar voice.

I look up and see Alek standing there smiling at me, he was wearing a black and blue flannel over a black T-shirt.

I smile at him.

"Hey lover boy." I joke.

He chuckles.

"Can I sit here?" He asks, gesturing to the empty seat across me.

I nod.

He places his books on the table and places the straps of his backup on the back of his chair. He sits down and looks at me.

"What are you reading?" He questions.

"Pride and Prejudice of course." I tell him as I hold my book up.

"Good choice, Ivy." He says.

I like Alek, he was a nice guy. We ran into each other a few times at the library. He helped me with my interview for my new job as a waitress.

"Thank you." I reply.

He lets out a small laugh before opening his book up.

"I have some news for you." I tell him.

He looks up at me and smiles.

"I'm listening." He says.

"I got the job." I announce.

"No way."

"I got it." I tell him.

"Good job ivy! I'm so proud of you." He cheers.

I laugh.

"Thanks."

"We have to celebrate." He tells me.

"Celebrate?"

"Yes."

"Alek, it's just a waitress. It's not like I started a business."

Alek laughs.

"You worked hard for this job, Ivy. We have to celebrate." He states.

"How do we even celebrate?" I question.

"Let's go out to dinner." He suggests.

"Dinner?"

"Yeah." He confirms. "My treat." He adds.

"Okay."

"Great. Tomorrow night. Meet me outside the library at 6, it's a date." He announces before getting up and walking away.

A date? What? I can't go on a date with him. What about Paxton?

I get back to the house and hope in the shower. I get out, my hair all wet from the hot water. I walk into the kitchen and see Elenor looking at the newspaper.

"Hey, Elle." I greet her.

"Hi, Ivy." She says, her gaze fixed to the paper.

"Where's Lucas?" I ask her.

"He went out to play with some of his friends." She tells me.

It goes silent for a moment, while I contemplate what to say.

"Can I ask you for advice?" I question.

She moves her gaze to me.

"Of course."

"Uh well, there's this guy I met, at the library. He's really nice, and well I guess we're going on a date tomorrow night but I'm not sure if I want to." I explain.

"Because of Paxton?" She guesses.

I nod.

"Well, Ivy it's been almost a year since you've seen Paxton. I can tell you're getting better. Maybe it's time you move on." She suggests.

I think about her words. I mean Alek and I have been getting close, and I'm starting to lose hope in the fact that Paxton might be alive. If I go on this date, I might be able to have a normal life again. Paxton will always have a special place in my heart. Forever. That will never change.
