—————

The next school day had seemed to just fly by. With nothing but the party on my mind, I couldn't focus on what any of my teachers were saying. I couldn't focus on the lessons. Hell! I hadn't even been able to focus on Olive and Miles. Not that I should've been anyway.

In my bedroom I got ready for the party. Someone knocked on my door.
"Come in."
I put the back on one of my earrings.

Joey strutted in, closing the door behind him and sitting on the edge of my bed.
"Hey."

"Hey Joey, what's up?" I turned around to face him. His legs were one over the other, and he'd been smiling at me. "What is it?"

"You look great! Also, Cylia is gonna be coming tonight."

"First of all, thank you. But that's awesome Jo, I can't wait to meet her."

"Yeah. Quick question though."

"Ask away."
I leaned against my dresser.

He cleared his throat and his smile faded.
"Your entire night won't be ruined if a certain someone doesn't show up, right?"

My smile faded too, suddenly knowing the certain someone he was referring to.
"If you're talking about Miles.. I'm sure I'll get lost in the party anyway. He doesn't need to be here for me to enjoy myself. Why do you ask? Do you know something?" I turned back around, putting in my other earring, waiting for his reply. I didn't want to pay any mind to it. I didn't want to allow him to get in my head.

"Well.. I was just at Louis's house. And I kind of overheard Vinnie and Miles talking. He was talking about telling some girl an excuse so he didn't have to go somewhere."

I'd put the backing on my other earring and checked my phone.
"Well he hasn't texted me.. I know how this is gonna sound, but is it possible he was talking about Olive?"

"I mean it's possible, but why would he lie to Olive?"

The doubt filled my body. Every piece of me. It consumed all my thoughts from before and made new ones. The thoughts I didn't want to be having that night.

He's not even going to bother.

He won't show.

I bet he's with Olive right now.

Why would he ever come to my party?

I'm so stupid to have actually thought he'd be here tonight.

I sighed before starting to defend myself.
"He's done it before.. he lied to her so we could hangout on Wednesday."

He gave me a fake enthusiastic smile and stood up.
"Hope for the best, right?"

"I guess. And if he doesn't come, I don't care. This is my party anyway and nothing is gonna ruin my night."

"Well, I'll see you soon. You look great!"
He gave me a double thumbs up and walked out of the room.

After about fifteen minutes of finishing getting ready, (and about ten minutes more thinking about whether or not Miles would be there) Millie and Sadie bursted into the room.
