—————Lunch time had arrived and I'd headed to my locker to meet Sadie, Millie, and Miles. He'd said to meet at my locker and then we would've gone off together to talk to Olive, that'd been the newly formed plan. When I arrived, Sadie and Millie were eagerly waiting for me. Miles hadn't been there yet, which was fine.
I could've waited a couple minutes."Hey you guys."
"Hey."
Sadie replied first.
"I was wondering if everything is alright? I mean, with what happened this morning. You seemed kind of upset.""Oh uh, yeah. Everything is better for the moment. I'm actually meeting Miles to talk with Olive.. if you guys wanna go get something to eat and I can meet you in there, that'd be fine."
"No, we can wait. Right, Sadie?"
Millie nudged Sadie with her elbow while maintaining a casual, nonchalant smile, obviously trying to convince Sadie to agree. And just like clockwork, Sadie's stomach growled, but a smile grew onto her face.
"Yeah, sure thing.""Cool, thank you. We're gonna head to her locker once he gets here, and then we can go. Now I just gotta wait for him to show up.."
We all stood there for a little bit, looking around. We'd began to think he was blowing off the plan and that he just wouldn't come. But we all tried to keep our doubts to a minimum. Millie broke the thick silence — that wasn't actually all that silent, being that we were in school — and began to talk.
"So in second period, I had a pop quiz and it was so frickin-" Millie got impolitely drowned out by obnoxious laughter. It'd been coming from down the hall but it was still loud enough to shake the conversation. We all exchanged an 'ick' look, and were soon confronted by the source. Olive no doubt. Miles with his arm hung around her. Sickening really.
That's when I'd realized he hadn't followed through with the plan. Being that we were gonna meet, just the two of us, and walk over to her."Oh, hi."
I knew I sounded grossed out. Who could've blamed me with the scene that I'd been forced to watch in front of me. I would've preferred Jayde and Vinnie any day of the week. At least they'd seemed to belong together. "I thought we were gonna-"Miles quickly stole my sentence out from underneath me.
"I figured this would be quicker.""Hey baby boo! You had something you'd like to ask me?"
Olive propositioned. Sounding too cheerful. Sounding all too fake. Who truly would've been surprised? Olive, fake? No way!I scrunched my mouth, and eyed up Miles out of the corner of my eye.
"I had something I'd like to ask you?"
I turned to Miles.
"I had something I'd like to ask her?""Yeah, that's what she said, isn't it?"
My face fell, dumbfounded. My tone remained the same, irritated and flabbergasted, but adding small bits of aggression to the mix.
"Oh, well then if that's how this is being addressed. Pass. Thanks for coming to talk to me though."
I looked over to Millie and Sadie, who were both serving me a face of question. I started walking off and they followed behind. When I approached the cafeteria, Miles tapped my shoulder. It'd been just him alone. No Olive, thankfully.
"What happened back there?"
He just followed behind until I got sick of it and decided to whip around with an answer.
"What happened back there was you switched up because you were too scared to confront your own girlfriend with something that was completely your idea. If this is how you're gonna be, then just forget it Miles, okay?"
