My mom had actually made me go. I stood at my locker alone, staring at the two of them chatting like normal. They hadn't talked to me at all. They hadn't gone over to me either. They'd acknowledged me but it wasn't exactly positive. Anything further than that was non existent. I'd tried not to let myself get too down, it'd only been the morning. First bell hadn't even rung. It wasn't exactly an argument either. It wasn't worth the energy. We weren't those friends. I'd been confident it wasn't going to last.
"You gonna keep staring at them or are you actually gonna go over there?"
It'd been a familiar voice that I hadn't heard in a few days. The voice that unfortunately took over any lingering thought in my mind once it'd spoken.I flinched, closed my locker, and turned to face the curt voice.
"You gonna keep talking or are you gonna mind your own business?" He smirked. "Hi, Miles.""Hi, Margo. Where you been?"
"Home. Sick."
"Sick?"
I spluttered up a fake cough and he'd reacted pleasantly. He could tell immediately that I was lying and that I wasn't giving away all there was to it.
"Oh, very sick. Tuberculosis perhaps?""See that's what I was thinking but the doctors wouldn't listen to my cries for help."
"How've you been?"
"I'm fine. Good, actually."
My tone must not have matched my words because he'd questioned the situation again, but in a little more detail, revealing what he'd been referring to the first time.
"Is that why you're not with your little girl gang?""First, don't call it that ever again."
He chuckled.
"And second, it's really not any of your concern. How's your cougar doing?"
With that, I grinned. I'd felt confident in the conversation. It'd been flowing well."Oh, so she's a cougar now, huh?"
"She always has been."
"If you must know, we're not really together anymore."
"Okay so, not really. That explains what I saw the other day then."
"What you saw? Is that supposed to mean something?"
"It's just, you guys seemed to be very much together. People were even talking about a Molive wed-"
"I don't know what you saw, but we're not together. Okay?"
"You're seriously not together?"
"No, I swear."
For whatever reason, hearing that sent some sort of relief through my body. That'd surely meant Olive had been behind me, the least of my worries, gone. I didn't have to put up with that mess anymore. I had, however, been curious about the whole situation. Did he break up with her? Did she break up with him? Did they get into an argument?
"So, what happened?"
