—————

Some time had passed. Miles had gone upstairs to hangout with Vinnie, but Jayde kicked him out of her room after about half an hour. Having nothing much better to do, I went to my room and continued to analyze the pages of my current read. I'd been about one-third of the way through the book, and thus far I'd been enjoying it. My focus got driven away when I felt somebody's presence. Somebody's stare. I'd ignored it at first, just thinking it to be my imagination. But after finding myself not paying full attention to the book in my hands, I'd given up and looked over, the person being a lot closer than I'd presumed.

"I'm probably gonna head out. Is your mom around?"
The lanky, curly haired Miles started once my eyes were on him.

"I think she went to the corner store.. d'ya get tired of the two face sucking morons?"

"Something like that I guess. We still got that project to work on?"

"Just some. Why?"

"We could work on it?"
He suggested, hands in his pockets.

"I mean I guess we could but don't you wanna get home before Kate gets worried?"

"Pretty sure me being out at night is something she's used to by now. So.. care to make some room?"
He signaled for my bed and I let out a breathy chuckle. I signaled for the floor and he sat like an obedient dog. I placed my bookmark in between the pages and set it on the nightstand. I got to my feet, stretched, and started to gather some stuff we needed to finish up the project, then sat across from him. His defined, yet soft facial features had been watching my every move. He checked his phone one more time for whatever the reason before setting it onto the floor, face down.

"So. All we have left to do is polish up some of the closing sentences and go over them if that's okay?"

"Sure thing.. thanks by the way."

"For?"
I questioned, dragging it out.

"For working on this by yourself. I mean I don't feel great about you having done almost all of it, but I didn't wanna overstep I suppose.. if that makes sense, I don't know."

"Obviously what happened wasn't exactly planned, but I didn't work on it alone. Sadie and Millie helped me with some of it."
I shrugged.

"Good, and just so you're aware, I don't want something like that to happen again. Okay? It wasn't supposed to have happened the first time."

"Yeah." I stated awkwardly. I agreed. Besides, what was I supposed to say? That it had scared me and I'd been glad he decided to stay away? No. Even though that was how I'd really felt it was something that couldn't have been said.

Silence broke over the room and he read over the finished flash cards, carefully looking over the details for the presentation.
"When is this due?"

"Deadline is this Thursday and our day to present is Friday."

He poked out a lip, raised his eyebrows, and nodded in approval, not loosening his stare from the index cards in his hands.
"Doesn't this seem a bit cannibalistic given the context?"
He pointed to the word 'craving' and I shook my head gently.

"Not if it's used correctly in the sentence."

He set down the card.
"Enlighten me. How would I use it correctly? How would I use it if I were giving an example?"
