(!possible tw: drinking!)

-

"Wow okay.."

I'd walked back to the kitchen which had been empty and grabbed my cup from before. I walked over to a corner and put myself in it, leaning my back against it. While sipping on my tasteful mixture I ran through everything.

Why would he just leave like that after he seemed to be having a good night?

He keeps lying to Olive. And I know it's wrong. Cause what am I to him? Just his partner for a stupid class project. Not even a friend.

Why did he act like he didn't wanna be here once Jayde showed up?

He completely changed when they came around..

What had even happened before they came over? Like what was that?

What could've been a potential moment? I mean.. We held hands, kinda? Ew, why am I thinking about it that way?

Gosh, it's Miles I'm talking about. Of course none of that meant anything. Not to him at least.

I should get another drink.

By the time I had came to cope with the events of the night, I had downed two more drinks than intended. Cylia came bouncing into the kitchen, shaking me from my inner thoughts.

"Hey! What are you doing in here by yourself?"
She raised an eyebrow and reached her hand into the cooler.

"Oh, I was just getting a drink. And then two more after that. Are you having a good time?"

She fetched a cold bottle of water, covered in chilled drops of condensation. She looked back up at me and smiled. "Yeah, I really am! Why did no one warn me that Joey is a fricking dance machine?"
I chuckled at her comment, having forgotten how much he loved to dance whenever he had the chance. She screwed the cap off of her bottle and sipped from it.

"Oh yeah! Keeping you on your toes?"

"That's for sure. By the end of the night I won't be able to feel my toes. I'm having quite the difficult time keeping up. He's crazy but he's great!"

I smiled warmly.
"That he is. Crazy yes, but great is what I meant! I'm glad you're enjoying yourself."

"Yeah. But you don't really seem to be enjoying yourself? Why so glum birthday girl?"

I fixed my posture, hoping that would've convinced her otherwise. "I am not glum. I am just happy, happy, happy! Just taking a break is all."
I shook my cup that still had a thin layer of liquid on the bottom. "Hydrating!"

"With alcohol?"

"I'm not drinking, I swear! I have punch."
Lie. Only the second drink was punch.

"Ah, okay. You should come join us, you shouldn't be alone on your birthday."

I slammed the remainder of my cup back, down to the last drop, and threw it in the trash.
"I've gotta do something real quick but I'll be out shortly!"

She nodded her head excitedly.
"Alright, I'll be waiting. Maybe Joey will take a break to wait for you. Fingers crossed!"
She bounced back out of the kitchen and left me alone once again. I laughed a bit, just until I knew she'd been far enough away that I couldn't have been heard.
I quickly waltzed up to my bedroom, trying to avoid anyone who would've stopped me. I grabbed my phone and tapped on Miles' contact.

miles:
k.

I turned off my phone with a sigh and set it back onto the dresser.

Wow Miles! A "k." was just what I needed right now!

I couldn't have said I was surprised, but that didn't mean it hadn't still stung. I couldn't have helped but to have felt conflicted. The same person who'd hurt me and scared me was the one person I didn't want to leave.

I slowly made my way back downstairs to find Joey and Cylia. Once I'd spotted them from afar, I approached with an upbeat attitude. They both greeted me with warm smiles and Joey instantly sprung up from where him and Cylia had been sitting.

Reaching a hand out for Cylia to take, he immediately said,
"You ready to hit the dance floor?"
I looked at Cylia who'd been looking at me, and we both chortled. Joey chimed in with us, seemingly wanting to be included. All the while it'd been clear he hadn't understood the reason for the exchanged laughter. Not wanting to embarrass him, I started dancing to the beat of the song that was playing and motioned for them to join me. Cylia swiftly grabbed his hand and they shuffled out onto the floor, joining my rhythm.

I had danced to a few songs with them. One right after another, enjoying every moment. I could tell Cylia'd been having a good time, and Joey made it very obvious that he was. I couldn't have been more gleeful in that moment. If anything, I had been relieved that I could finally enjoy my party.

After the song had ended and the new one began, Joey decided to ask me a question. This question had definitely gained my attention. Not only was I not expecting to hear the question, but once I did hear it, I didn't want to answer.

"Where's Miles?"
Joey asked.

I cleared my throat and attempted to respond calmly.
"Oh he-"
I cleared my throat again.
"He left with Jayde and Vinnie."

A look of frustration got painted across his face, Cylia took note of this and rubbed his arm reassuringly. He spoke.
"Wait, so he left your party to hangout with-"

I cut him off.
"Joey it's fine. They're friends, and it wasn't even confirmed that he was gonna be here in the first place. All he did was decide to stop by. It was better than nothing. Can we just dance, please?"

"But you were so exc-"

Cylia cut him off this time, clearly picking up on how I'd felt about the conversation.
"Joey let it go, okay?"

"Fine."
