—————Monday approached and quite frankly I'd been glad to be back to school. It gave me something to do, so I wasn't willing to complain. I threw on my same basic uniform and headed downstairs, having already done everything else.
Mom lifted her head up from what she'd been doing when she heard my feet reach the floor at the bottom of the stairs.
"Hey baby! How'd you sleep?"Wow somebody's chipper. The only one she calls 'baby' on a day-to-day basis is Jayde.
"Not too bad. What's that smell?"
I responded, my nose picking up warm scents of something unknown, yet familiar."Banana bread! Five minutes until it's out."
That's exactly what it was.
"Oh wow, I love banana bread. Is there some sort of special occasion today that I forgot about? I mean, early morning baking isn't your typical.""Nope! Just in a good mood I suppose."
I grinned. I hadn't realized how long it had been since she herself had addressed being in a good mood.
"Well that's-"An annoyingly pitched voice of familiarity had begun to speak, cutting me off.
"Morning, Mom. Ooh! Is that banana bread?""Sure is. How're you two doing this morning?"
Mom replied, a smile glued to her face.I peered over my shoulder, seeing that Vinnie had spent the night. Surprisingly, he had been the one to speak first.
"Not too bad. I mean, waking up next to someone as perfect as this one over here never hurts." He turned to Jayde and she blushed. Still? Hadn't they been together long enough? She seriously continued to get flustered by such BS? I rolled my eyes. He kissed her cheek causing me to bolt for the front door.Mom had noticed my swift movements and made sure to remark on them.
"Woah. Aren't you waiting for the bread? I mean even if not the bread, at least your brother?""He caught a ride with Louis and I can't stand to be around this much longer."
I had made it abundantly clear by signaling circular motions with the palm of my hand, that my 'this' was Vinnie and Jayde.Mom dropped the rag onto the counter that she'd been cleaning it with, and rested her hands on top of it.
"Aw, come on now. Don't be that way. You'll get it someday.""In one ear and out the other Mama. See you after school. And Vinnie, make sure Jayde doesn't eat all the bread please."
He had his arm around Jayde's waist, making it almost unbearable to stare at him while waiting for a response, but he quickly did so.
"Yes ma'am."I quickly exited out the front door, but not quick enough. I'd been immediately stopped on the other side of the door when I came inches from a face I hadn't expected to see on our doorstep.
"Oh- Hey Miles. Vinnie's inside.""I kind of assumed so. I actually came here to see Jayde. Yeah, uh is she busy?"
"No? Other than being gross with Vinnie."
He allowed a smirk to creep onto his face.
"I didn't suspect anything less, and quite honestly I don't wanna be a part of that. Do you wanna walk to school together or are you waiting for Joey?"
