Mae's pov

Music blaring louder and louder with every step we took towards the party trying to immerse ourselves as if we never left. I had a shy grin on my face as Rafe's fingers laced through mine. He kept himself close to me, his side brushing my back. I could smell the sweet scent of kiwifruit and I was suddenly finding it very hard to not turn around and kiss him.

"Let's catch up with this party aye?" I suggested my lips still tingling at the after thought as I pulled us into the kitchen.

I swiped the bottle of vodka from the other side where Rafe stood before. I could see from my peripheral vision that he raised a curious eyebrow at me. I turned to walk a couple of steps to the cupboard and fridge when I felt a pull on my hip and that's when I noticed Rafe's hand resting there.

Luckily, I didn't need to move far to reach what I needed so I quickly moved as he watched me work. I opened the fridge and took out two cans of that upmarket Fanta I swigged from him the first time I was in his kitchen. I opened the cupboard and pulled two glasses out on my way back, sitting them all gently back down on the bench.

I snuggled back in Rafe's side as I worked making some sort of concoction which I hoped tasted nice. I kept a concentrated face like I do when I am working on chemical reactions in chemistry class hoping that my measurements weren't too out of proportion for myself. The last thing I need was to get knocked out cold after of couple drinks at my boyfriends birthday party. What a disaster that would be.

Rafe's hand slowly swept down my back to hold my hip again whilst I poured the mix together before placing the cap back onto the vodka. I still stand by my accusation that vodka smells like sharpie, vile on it's own that's for sure.

I dropped the two empty cans into the bin under the sink, moving two steps to the side as Rafe's hand tried to stay on me which only made me smile more. His touch somewhat possessive in letting everyone know I was his but gentle in allowing me to know that he cared about me more then their perception of us.

I pushed the drink in front of Rafe, turning myself to face him. There was a twinkle of amusement in his eyes at how easily I maneuvered myself around his kitchen. I guess it gave him a sense of fondness. I know it gave me a sense of fondess that I was able to wander around his kitchen withiout having to give a t second thought. I had properly became a part of hsi family.

But honestly who knows maybe he's assessing my house wife skills? Not that I will ever be a house wife, he'll be my house husband. I bit down on my lip as I tried not to laugh at the thought of him wearing an apron cooking in the kitchen, pulling a fresh batch of muffins out of the oven.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked suspiciously as I was pulled back to the room. It seemed I had just been staring giddily down at the bench for the last minute, lost in my own thoughts.

"Oh don't worry about it" I chimed turning myself into him, lodging myself between his chest and the bench. His hand on my hip crept softly around to hold my lower back, pressing me against him.

"Cheers, birthday boy" I remarked.

I then brought my glass up to his only seconds away from him taking a sip when they clinked.

"Cheers" he echoed, watching as I bite the edge of my glass in a wandering smile before taking a sip, my eyes innocently wide as I looked up at him. I could feel his heart beating heavily in his chest and a took a moment to savour the sound of happiness inside reflecting in a smile outside.

"Go join your party" I spoke quietly leaning into him to press a light kiss to his cheek. He gave me a smug smile as he looked down at me, nodding at my request but not for saying something I hoped he would forget.
