Mae's pov

I stood in the corner of Principal's Thornton office, dripping water onto the carpet. He made Rafe go and grab me a towel whilst I waited shivering slightly.

Rafe came back in towel in hand and kept his head down as he walked over to me. I glared at him hand extending out waiting for him to pass it to me. But he didn't.

Instead he slung it around my shoulders with a saddened look in his eyes. I felt my knees weaken when his fingers grazed my shoulders, but I continued to roll my eyes and scoff at him.

"Don't act all innocent now Cameron" I stated annoyed and shrugged away from him. I watched as he sucked a breath in before turning away from me taking a place in one of the chairs.

"Murchison, Cameron, would you mind explaining your actions to me" Principal Thornton said and gestured his hands out to us.

"Well, he wasn't going to go to Physics which would hurt both of our grades. So I tried to get him to come-" I started before being rudely cut off.

"Yeah, but I was only teasing!" Rafe said casting a look back at me.

"Oh sure you were! Just pretending not to get to class so I would run after you.
Just. Teasing." I sharply stated back raising an eyebrow at him.

"You still ran after me!" He nearly shouted edging forward from where he sat.

"You ran first, what else was I supposed to do?! Let my grades fall?!" I shouted back before Principal Thornton slammed his hand against the desk causing us both to flinch. I caved into myself, my eye immediately dropping to the ground with disappointment in myself. Why do I keep letting Rafe Cameron get the best of me?

"Enough!" He said sternly as Rafe glanced back toward him.

"I will not have my top two students continue to be like this just when you were getting better." He grumbled as I played with the end of my wet hair out of nerves. I heard him sigh deeply and Rafe lean back into his dest while he waited for the next sentence.

"What had happened to make you go backwards to the bickering nonsense you had before?" He questioned as a lump formed in my throat. I rocked on my feet keeping my gaze straight to the ground. The squeaking of the chair when Rafe moved uncomfortably sounded loudly through out the room.

"Well Cameron?" He prompted after Rafe showed a few signs of life. I flicked my eyes up, starring at him under my eye lashes. He gulped slightly and I watched as his jaw clenched.

"Sir.. I can't... I can't tell you" he said calmly after clearing his throat. Principal Thornton's eyes quickly moved onto me and I if it wasn't for the water I would be over heating with nerves.

"Can you tell me Miss Murchison?" He questioned as I breathed heavily. My lips parted as I watched Rafe turn his head back at me wondering whether I would tell him what I thought, no, knew, it was about.

"No sir" I stated quietly keeping eye contact with him. My voice was weak but I showed no emotion as I spoke. He rubbed his forehead and turned away from us as he thought.

Rafe starred at me contently, the tinniest smile on his lips. I kept a serious expression as I looked back at him but the image of a smile played through my eyes.

"Well, you are already both down to a Merit in Physics. For now I want you two to go back to class and get those grades back up!" He said frustrated as we both nodded in response.

"First, go and find something for Miss Murchison to wear, then go to the year 12 lab. I believe there is a tutor there off duty who I shall ring and tell them of your situation" he mumbled slowly picking up the school phone as I hurriedly made my way out of his office door. Rafe followed calmly behind me seeming unfazed by what we just went through.

"Are you happy?" I asked bitterly whilst hugging the towel around my drenched self.

"What?" He questioned furrowing his eyebrows looming over me.

"Well our grades have fallen. You've teased and taunted me again. I have been humiliated. Isn't that what you wanted?" I snapped at him watching as his face crumples slightly.

"Mae" he pleaded and went to place a hand on my shoulder but I squirmed away from him. I rolled my eyes and headed towards my locker, his trailing behind me.

"I'm getting some dry clothes" I muttered casting a glare back at him. I turned back round not caring about his reaction as I reached my locker. I quickly unlocked it and grabbed at the spare set of clothes I had kept in thier after learning from past incidents.

"Why do you have a whole set of spare clothes in your locker?" Rafe asked with a confused expression on his face whilst he watched me.
I sighed facing him as I shut my locker. I gave him a sarcastic smile and tilted my head to the side.

"I think you would know the answer to that being one; my enemy which has included you spilling coffee, chemicals, paint, ink and water on me and two; a genius"
I toyed and brushed past him into the the changing rooms. I couldn't bare to hear his voice, hence forth why I had gone into the girl's changing rooms and not the uni-sex toilets instead.

I placed my stuff down and flipped my head over before tying my hair up in the towel in an attempt to dry it.

I kicked off my shoes and pulled at the edges of my skirt. I slipped the skirt off and started to fumble through my small pile trying to find my back up pants when I heard a low sigh echo from around the corner.

I quickly shoved my skirt back on and whipped my head around, eyes narrowed as I scanned the changing rooms.

"Rafe, please tell me you didn't follow me in here?" I said into the empty looking space.

I heard the shuffling of feet and I sighed loudly. Why wouldn't he just leave me alone?

His face peered catiously around the corner his apologetic eyes meeting my annoyed gaze.

"Rafe, I'm trying to get changed! Please just go... or at least go back around the corner" I breathed and watched as he slowly retreated back around the corner.

"Thank you" I hummed and continued to get changed into some dry clothes.

"Mae?" I heard him call whilst I packed up my stuff.

"Yes Cameron?" I asked back bluntly.

"Why did you lie for me?" he asked gently.

"I didn't lie for you, I lied for me" I said back trying to sound harsh but my voice came out as a soft hum instead. I cursed myself for being so weak on hiding my deepest emotions letting him open doors which I tried to seal shut.

I huffed and walked around the corner and felt that pressing comfortable tension surround us as I gazed up at the slick haired brunette boy. I felt a shiver tingle down my spine as that glare I once had melted away. I sucked in a breath as I watched him graze his teeth over his bottom lip and his eyes focused on mine.

I felt my heartbeat quicken but I couldn't let him do this again. He'd just kiss me and flee so its better to flee first, right?
