Mae's pov
I caved my lips inwards together as I glanced away wondering how I was supposed to get out.
I don't have to mean it, do I?I could just say it to please him and see that this game was no joke. Maybe it would actually help me.
I sighed and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear before turning my attention back to Rafe. He stood confidently, proud and tall with a large smirk on his face and amusement in those usually cold blue eyes.
I stepped forward into him so I was only a few inches away, asserting my own power. I starred him dead in the eye a small smile spreading across my own lips. A few of his Kook friends turned around as they noticed how close I had gotten to him, suddenly intrigued.
Rafe looked me up and down and his jaw clenched and unclenched, a sign he was uncomfortable with how close I was, but he didn't move back."Rafe Cameron, I love to bicker with you" I stated in a sweet voice. My lips quivered the second after the words left my mouth.
Rafe's eyes flashed in surprise as a couple of his friends 'oohed' at my statement. Rafe chuckled and glanced away in disbelief that I actually followed through. He brought his gaze back to mine, it was colder than before now that his friends were looking.
"Get lost Mae" he hissed but it came out as a low whisper, still filled with annoyance. He obviously was caught off guard by my actions. I smiled happily at him before walking off, bumping shoulders with him as I did so.
When I rounded the corner, I saw him starring at me out of the corner of my eye. He raked his hand back through his hair still in shock, but why the nerves?

The rest of the day was pretty boring, especially my biology class. All we did was flip through the pages of the textbook reading and taking notes. Rafe was pretty quiet the rest of the day, a serious look plastered across his face the whole time. I wasn't sure why he had decided to stop talking but it wasn't really concerning me. No bickering/Talking Rafe = Good Grades for me.
Health Class was the worst and compulsory, we were still going through the topic of friendship from last year. There was more then one time I contemplated going to the bathroom and never coming back.
Although we did receive a slip of paper which was to be Rafe's and I's homework for the afternoon. It was filled with generic questions they wanted us to answer about each other.
Which meant I had to get Rafe to talk and answer the questions.I waited a few metres away from the school's entrance hoping to catch Rafe on his way out. I saw him walk out and stride the car park, I quickly jogged after him. I had completely forgotten he had a car.
"Rafe!" I called out as I came closer. He whipped his head around at the sound of his name. He spotted me and rolled his eyes turning back around.
Luckily, I had gotten close enough that I could now reach him. I grabbed his shoulder pulling him back around. His face was of total horror that I had just grabbed him in 'public'. He flinched back as I caught my breath. I bet my hair was a total mess. I lifted my hand and smoothed my hair before speaking.
"We need do that stupid worksheet. You can come to mine." I stated and played with the bottom of my jersey. He exhaled deeply and looked at me sternly.
"Dont touch me and not today" he said and started to walk away again. I groaned to myself before running in front of him blocking him off. He threw his hand in the air and his face grew red in anger. A tiny vein showed itself around his temple.
"I said not today!" He yelled at me and I jumped at his menacing tone.
"It's due tomorrow!" I yelled back not caring whose attention it would draw. He huffed and ran a hand through his slick hair out of anger, trying to calm himself.
"God! Fine, come on" he spat and grabbed my arm gently as he walked me to his car. His face was still red clearly annoyed by my pestering attitude.
I didn't say another word as I couldn't harm the chances of not getting this done. I was however very surprised he grabbed me, it was probably just to get me to stop talking.I climbed into his car which probably cost more then our house. I sat awkwardly as I waited for him to drive to his even more expensive house.
I didn't dare move as we drove along, if I did any damage to his car at all, it would probably cost more money then I could imagine.
Rafe's eyes were fixated on the road the whole time, which was good, but it was as if he had forgotten I was even sitting beside him. When we pulled into his drive way, I gasped at the size of his house."Never seen a house before?" Rafe taunted finally acknowledging my presence. I closed my mouth and narrowed my eyes, casting a glare over my shoulder.
I opened the car door and climbed out making sure my skirt didn't catch on anything in the process. I followed him as he walked up to the door and entered the house.
Everything was so extravagant and big my eyes nearly popped out of my head at the sight.
"Come on let's get this over with" he said with a huff and dragged his feet up the stairs.
I followed him up the steps and he stopped at what I guessed was his bedroom door. I saw his head tilt the side as he remembered something.
He turned and leaned his back against the closed door. He scratched the back of his neck as he gathered his words."Lets go to lounge on second thought" he said in a weak tone.
"Why? Because your room might not be what I imagined it to be? Neat and orderly" I asked and raised an eyebrow. A flash of uncertainty crossed his face as he thought about my comment.
"You've imagined my room?" He countered a devilish smirk growing in his face.
"No! Ew. It's just a phrase, now please just go in" I snapped back my eyes widening and my heart beat was a little faster than before.
"You so have, and therefore I shall not disappoint" he taunted and decided showing me his room would be amusing for him. He opened the door and held it open waiting for me. I rolled my eyes and strutted into the teenage boys room. It was as neat as ever, I wonder why he was scared to show me it. I settled on the idea that it would be adding to his uptight nature. Which it did.
His room was bigger than Katelyn's and mine combined. He had a walk in closet and his own bathroom. For this I envied him.
"So your name is Mae?" He asked and I turned quickly on my heel. He stood in the door way, pen and worksheet in his hands. After 4 years of torment he still didn't even know my 'proper' name.
"M-Mabel. It's Mabel. How do you not know this?" I stuttered in shock and grabbed my own worksheet out of my tote bag alongside a pen.
"Never really thought about it, I just call you Mae" he said starring down at his piece of paper.
"I guess you don't think about a lot of things" I teased and took a seat on his bed without asking. His eyes snapped upwards as I did so fear, annoyance and sadness washing over him at once.
"Why are you sitting on my bed?" He asked impatiently and I abruptly stood back up.
His blue eyes were wide as they starred coldly at me. I opened and closed my mouth a few times, I didn't know what to say in defense. I just sat on his bed, that was all. It's not like I set his curtains on fire."Sorry.." I whispered and dropped my gaze to the ground. I heard him let out a sigh before asking the next question.
"If you were to dye your hair what colour would you choose?" He asked in a bored tone.
I ran my finger through my hair as I thought.
"Prussian-shade of blue." I answered confidently as Rafes eyes lit up and his lips curled into wicked grin.
I knew what was comig next and my only thought was
Oh no
