23.

Mae's pov

I was surprised when my phone started to ring at 8 O'Clock Sunday morning, who wanted to talk to me at 8 in the morning? If it was Katelyn why didn't she just pop over.

I groaned and rolled over to grab my phone still half asleep when I answered the call. It was from an unknown number which was a bit concerning but I answered it anyways, gotta take some risks.

"Hello?" I asked sounding a little sleepy as I tried to suppress a yawn.

"Hey Minnie Mae" Rafe's voice seeped through the phone as my eyes widened and I rapidly sat up. I could hear the faint echoes of a chuckle from his lips as a small blush crept across my cheeks.

"You sound a little tired there" he joked as I fake laughed back at him.

"What do you mean I've been up since 7" I lied.

"Well then you won't mind if I come over and pick you up then?" he asks smoothly as I bite my lip fighting back a smile.

"Well that depends on where you're taking me" I stated bluntly and start to fumble around my room grabbing at clothes and jewellery I might want to wear.

"I was thinking the arcade for some laser tag" he said thoughtfully as my lips curled into a delighted smile.

"Sure but I'm warning you, I am pretty good" I boasted through the phone as I heard a joking chuckle from the others side.

"So am I. Watch your back Murchison" he said lowly as I bit hard down on my lip at his tone.

"Watch yours Cameron" I taunted back and it was like I could feel his lips curve into smirk without seeing him.

"I'll be at yours in 10 minutes" he stated swiftly as I rushed into the bathroom slight panic as I was no where near ready.

"Sure, sure. See you in 10" I replied rapidly before quickly turning the shower on. I hoped the water would warm up fast, cold showers weren't exactly pleasant to me. Thankfully it did and I was able to zip in and out of it quickly.

I continued to do my hair and brush my teeth  before shoving on a necklace last minute in the midst of my panic. I heard the sound of Rafes car pull up as I grabbed my phone and climbed out onto the roof.

"Finally Cameron! Been waiting a while" I lied and threw my hands in the air for extra effect as I moved closer to the the tree.

Rafe opened his door further and stood up shaking his head with a grin.

"I bet you weren't even ready" he toted back as I rolled my eyes at him before descending down the tree.

"Find some proof and you'll get a reward for that bet" I said and dusted myself off as I walked over to Rafe. He had that devilish smile resting on his face as he waited for me.

"Let's go already! I'm ready to win" I said and winked cheekily at him making his cheeks redden slightly.

"Fine you overachiever" he said flashing me a playful glare as I rolled my eyes once more at him.

"Whatever" I said and climbed into the passengers seat, when I suddenly noticed a few figures in the back seat. My face drained of colour and I pursed my lips when I saw Josh? and his other friends sitting in the back.

I drew a sharp breath in and flicked my head back around to face in front of me. I cast a worried and hateful glare towards Rafe for not telling me.

"Rafe, what is she doing here?" one of the guys whined as Rafe started up the car.

"I'm here to play laser tag" I stated weakly and shrunk down in my seat.

Rafe and his friends bickered over my presence as they drove as I tried to think about what scheme or plan had cooked up for me. I knew this was probably going to be the day that he did something big, public and real, just like I had asked.
