Mae's pov

I watched as a flash of horror washed over his face at my challenge. He pursed his lips tight together once more and sat back in seat arms crossed.

"No." he stated coldly as I pulled a puppy dog face at him pouting.

"Aww why not would that damage your little reputation" I said childishly back like he had done to me before. He stayed silent not wanting to comment, but it just proved that I was right. I smirked and leaned back into my own chair.

I started to concentrate on the class because if I couldn't get Rafe do anything I might as well have good grades instead. After a while of finding racism within the novel Jasper Jones the bell rang once more.

Rafe didn't waste anytime moving away from me, in a blink of an eye he was out the door. He could run for now but we still had the whole year to go. I sighed and stood up book in hand making my way out of the classroom filled with Kooks.

I walked back towards my locker and was met by Katelyn, twirling a piece of her hair around her finger. Her eyes lit up at my arrival and stood up off the lockers she was leaning on.

"So?" she said eagerly with a raised eyebrows. I looked at her confused and opened my locker.

"So what?" I asked back grabbing my books for the next lesson.

"So.. Rafe, You, Principal's office.. ring a bell?" she said jokingly as I sighed to myself. I closed my locker and turned to face her eager stature.

"We are basically been glued together for the year otherwise my grades are doomed. No bickering and..." I drifted off knowing she probably wouldn't like the next line.

She frowned but also looked so shocked at what I had already told her.

"And?" she prompted impatiently.

"I have to make him loosen up and my only idea was-" I started to say but she cut me off.

"The Games" she said her voice a weak whisper. I nodded apologetically but a smirk just spread across her face.

"You get to control Rafe Cameron" she stated bluntly as I rolled my eyes at her.

"Well yeah, but he gets to control me. It isn't a one way street." I said with a small huff.

"Yeah, but he controls you all the time" she stated  and flared her arms out at me.

"What?! No, he doesn't!" I said defensively wondering what had caused her to say this.

"You let him stop you in the middle of the hallway. Allow him to talk to you and you reply. Yes, what he has done isn't nice but you let him in." she said softly not wanting to offend me but all I heard coming from her mouth was that it was my fault that I had gotten into this situation.

"Whatever Kate. I'm going to social studies. Where I will dismiss Rafe at every possible moment" I said with a disbelieved laugh and walked past her with out batting an eye.

I couldn't believe her.

Why would I allow Rafe to make my life at school absolutely terrible. He talks to me not the other way around, it's not like I can stop him from doing that. Although, I do reply... ugh screw it!

I had my head down and a scowl on my face when I walked straight into the back of someone.

I fell backwards at the impact and landed with a small thud on the hallways dirty floor. My books scattered everywhere. I groaned in slight pain and annoyance. I propped myself out on my elbows and blew the strands of hair out of my face.

A shadow was cast over me as the person I had walked into turned around and crouched beside me.

"You alright there Minnie Mae?" Rafes voice spoke chillingly through the air. I tilted my head back and my eyes met his, I debated whether to reply to him and let him have control.

I pursed my lips together and shuffled back from him as I went to get up. I didn't give him the satisfaction of an answer.

"No words?" he chuckled with a smirk. I tilted my head away and debated once more if I should talk but my tongue got the better of me.

"Of course I have words. But that they aren't good ones" I spat bitterly rolling my eyes at him.

I watched as a glint of disappointment flash through his eyes but he quickly dismissed it with a sigh. He stood up looking around to see if anybody was around or paying attention before extending his hand out to me. I starred at it and before letting out a disbelieving laugh.

"Is that supposed to be some sort of apology act?" I questioned and sat up further as he bit his lip starring down at me.

"Look do you want a hand up or not?" he snapped coldly.

Take what I can get, I guess.

I slid my hand into his soft palm, my hands must've felt so rough to him. His hand curled around mine as I let out a shaky breath that I wasn't aware I had. He pulled me off the ground with one strong tug on my arm. I  released a quiet gasp not expecting to be whisked off the floor so quickly.

"What's the matter, Minnie Mae? Never been swept onto your feet?" he joked as my eyes narrowed and I stepped back from him.

"It's off" I countered without thinking of the consequences.

"Well technically I did that too" he said and nodded his head from side to side smugly. I coughed as a lump formed in my throat at his reply.

"Don't flatter yourself Cameron" I said taking a deep breath. I ducked my head away and picked the books up which I had dropped.

He rolled his eyes at me a small smirk resting on his lips.

"You love it Murchison" he said and licked his lips as he watched for my response. I scoffed and shot him a cold glare.

"Like hell I do" I muttered as his smirk grew wider.

"There's No Way you will say that you love to bicker with me right here in this hallway" he said wanting to assert his power on me. I suked in a breath and froze at his words. He didn't just say that did he?

What had I gotten myself into.
