Mae's pov

I mentally scolded myself for being so open and not taking a moment to think. I pinched the bridge of my nose as I started to walk away from a slightly stunned Rafe. Surprisingly, he didn't grab my arm. However he did shout out the word which I thought he'd never use.

"Blue!" he yelled as I stopped walking and closed my eyes, mentally cursing. I pivoted on my heels with an displeased look on my face as Rafe frantically flashes me a smile.

"Fine" I grumble and wait for him to pitch his case.

"Mae, I am truly sorry but we need to discuss this. Even I know that." He starts as I hum in reply. He breathed out deeply before he started to say his next few words.

"All you say is that I don't care, that I care more about my status then you. But I chase after you at every turn, I have stood up for you, I feel very low about my actions last night." he paused and contently looked at me before continuing.

"And I'm trying to reach out to you, but you keep running away. Mae, you're scared" He said as my mouth dropped open.

"Scared? I am not scared" I said defensively.

"Then why do you keep rushing off, not confronting you own feelings." he pressed on lightly.

"Maybe because I can't stand your smug presence" I snapped at him as a small smirk played on his lips.

"Maybe, it's because I can't be devoted to someone who is so caught up in statuses and that he never will be truly accepting of who I am and where I come from" I said a threw my arms before they hit my sides with a loud thud. His smirk faltered as my words ran wild in front of him.

"I can forget about those notions!" he said quietly.

"Can you? Can you really Rafe?" I said forcefully as he stood there blankly.

"I think we just need to accept that whatever surrounds us is just false and all created by a stupid dress and being forced to see each other" I said brutally, I could even feel the small stab to my own heart. His mouth opened and closed whilst his eyes grew wide at my accusation.

"Then why does your breath hitch in your throat when I touch you? Why can I feel you shiver when my hand slides around your waist? Why am I pulled to you? Why do every time I see you I have the urge to just slam my lips against yours?" he says his face reddening as my cheeks also flush red. I wasn't aware he noticed those little details about me.

"Sexual tension in the heat of the moment" I state bluntly trying to suppress the case he was making. He bit his lip and dragged a hand through his hair before stepping towards me.

"Rafe?" I questioned furrowing my eyebrows at his sudden need to move closer. I could already sense my heart beating faster and I was trying so hard to not show any signs of need.

"Tell me your heart is racing too" he said as he stepped closer again now looking down at me as I stupidly titled my head up. He smiled slightly as his hand wrapped around mine, feeling the ever quickening pulse as his thumb skimmed over the underside of my wrist.

"That doesn't prove anything" I said sharply although my knees were already quivering.

"Mae, it proves everything" he said as his gaze flickered from my eyes to my lips.

"Rafe, please don't kiss me now. I can't handle it at this moment." I said my voice becoming softer as I reached up to place a hand on his chest.

"You may think I'm scared but I can sense the amount of fear you have at thought of kissing me right now in this open space is nearly crushing you under it's weight." I breathed and lowered my head.
I felt his hand tense in mine as quickly gave it a gentle squeeze, without even thinking about it. The range of change in emotions he has brought me to felt and the difference in our dynamic was rather astounding; and yet I still found myself doubting it all.

"Rafe.. if you really do like me then do something big, public and show me that it is real." I said and took a step back my knees still quivering under his gaze. He looked a saddened but never less understanding in my point of view. He nodded and started to walk backwards keeping his eyes fixated on me as I did with him. I could still feel my heart racing as I finally turned myself away. A faint tingle running down my spine as I could still feel his eyes resting on me.

I decided not to take the public transport and instead sort another problem out. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket before unlocking it. I heaved a massive sigh of hope before I pressed on the name. It kept ringing for minute before they decided to accept the call.

"Mae?" Katelyn's voice rang out a little hopeful, confused and worried but still bitter. I smile crept onto my face at the mention of my name and not her usual blunt reply of yes?

"Hey Kate. We need to talk but first can you do me a favour? Which also will be discussed about after." I started and crossed my fingers as I heard her sigh.

"Sounds big and something I will be very judgemental about by the sound of your tone. What is it?" She asked quizzically and already mapped out her reaction to it.

"Well...um.. I need you to pick me up" I started my voice a weakening.

"From where?" She stated sharply before quickly jumping to a conclusion.

"Rafe's house?" She said in a joking manner her small giggle vibrating through speaker. I bit my lip as I stayed silent enough for her giggle to die away. Enough for her to realize her guess was correct. I could already sense her mouth dropping open.

"Give me five minutes" she said grumpily and with that said, she ended the call. I smiled sorrowfully at my phone and stood at the edge of Rafe's driveway waiting for the next storm to brew.

Chapter over

This was a definite struggle due to writers block and wanting it to be perfect. Which I am still undecided on whether it is or not.

Thanks!
