Mae's pov

The next week was quite a dare packed week but no harsh words other then our little taunts were said. So far I had Rafe spill coffee on himself, scream in the middle of the hallway, blow the fuses in the common room. He made me set off the fire alarm, write his English report and ride his old spider-man bike to school. It was painfully bittersweet because we were enjoying torturing each other but also didn't want to back down either.

Yesterday he dared me to wear something 'eye-catching' to school, I guess he was assuming something embarrassing but I had another idea. I raked through my wardrobe and draws looking for the perfect combination to make heads turn.

I found a short tight leather skirt and an off the shoulder leopard print top which had the tiniest 'v' at the middle. I grabbed some high heeled black ankle boots and left my hair out. I walked to the bathroom to add some mascara to my eyelashes and a deep shade of nude to my lips.

I flashed myself a smile before grabbing my black denim jacket and rushing out the front door before my parents saw me. I watched as Katelyn's mouth dropped open at the sight of me.

"What the heck are you wearing?!" she said ever so slightly judgmental her eyes wide.

I smiled smugly and held my arm up for her to loop hers around mine.

"Something eye-catching" I said as she smirked knowing this was a dare that I had found an ulterior move to carry out.

"Let's make heads turn then" she said growing excited as we walked although she had to stabilize me a little.

Once we started walking into the school everybody started gasping and whispering between themselves. I knew their eyes and whispers were all focused on me and I didn't really mind it for once, after all this was what the dare was meant to do. Katelyn left my side as we neared our main hallway, the hallway where Rafe would be waiting.

I took a deep breath smoothed my skirt out although nothing needed smoothing out, it was already pulled tight. I took my first few steps around the corner and held my head high as people turned around. I gave polite smiles as mouths dropped open at the sight of me. I got a few envious glares from the girls but I just brushed them off.

I looked ahead of me and saw Rafe's group part after noticing the whispers and gasps in the hallway. They all looked a little stunned yet they weren't put off by me either. They all smirked as they looked me up and down, a gross look of joy in their eyes.

My eyes collided with Rafes and my heart nearly stopped. He looked at me with fascination as his eyes raked over me slowly. His lips parted and I could see him suppress a shaky breath. I suddenly felt butterflies stir in my stomach as his eyes met mine. They held a tender look yet his serious face tried to hide it. Conflicting emotions rising in his head as he watched me walk closer. Step by step by step.

I made my way through his group and stood in front of Rafe with a smug smile. I wound a piece of my hair around my finger as I waited for him to comment. I couldn't help but want him to smile at me, expose what his eyes conveyed. Expose the fact that I was a friend to him not just some other Pogue. Break the hate filled system, break the system for me.

"That wasn't the dare" he said as he kept his eyes level with mine a little annoyed. I frowned slightly but quickly smiled again showing no sign of disappointment at his chosen words.
