Mae's pov

I gave a weak smile to a sour looking Katelyn who pulled up in her cozy car. I waved lightly and then started to walk towards the car before crawling into an awkward silence in the passengers seat.

She started to reverse casting me a glare as she went to look over her shoulder. I ducked my head slightly and waited for her to speak the first few words, not wanting to pressure her myself.

"Would you mind explaining why I had to pick you up from Rafe's house?" she said keeping her eyes dead ahead and face serious. I bit my lip nervously before seeing her raise an eyebrow as a means to hurry me up.

"Well you see Kate-" I started before she hurriedly cut me off.

"Katelyn" she stated bluntly.

"Katelyn.." I breathed before continuing to get my thoughts back in line.

"Rafe invited me to his party, then he dared me to do something that broke a rule. So I refused and told him why and he just laughed at me. In my anger I stormed away and hid from him until this morning when he caught me on the way out. He tried to apologize, we broke into a fight over many other things as per usual and now here I am in your car" I recapped quickly and watched Katelyn grimace at the sound of Rafe's name.

"Many other things?" she questioned confused as a slight blush settled over my cheeks.

"A romance" I stated and glanced as Katelyn's eyes snapped over to me, absolutely gobsmacked.

"Excuse me?" she said weakly as if the wind had been knocked out of her.

"He kissed me and then since then everything's been so intense and scattered" I rambled and pinched the bridge of my nose before my soul nearly left my body as Katelyn swung the car off the road into a nearby parking space.

"Hold the hell up" she said and turned violently to face me her face covered in utter shock.

"He kissed you?  Your first kiss was with Rafe Cameron!? Your so called mortal enemy!" she said her voice raising by the second. It was now my turn to be shocked, I hadn't even considered the fact Rafe was my first kiss, I was more focused on the general fact that he kissed me and I didn't hate it.

"Yeah, he did and was. Ex- mortal enemy" I stated and connected my gaze with her bewildered one. She covered her face with her hands as a low groan escaped her lips.

"Mae, when you told me he wasn't your enemy I was so angry. I was angry because he hadn't done anything nice to you in the last 4 years and now he does one or two generous acts and BAM!! You forgive him for everything?" she started and took a deep breath before continuing.

"I thought it must've been a charade, an act, a joke. But I looked you dead in the eye and I didn't even recognize you but I could tell you were dead serious about it" she said as my eyes softened.

"and now you're telling me that he kissed you? That he wants a romance or to pursue something with you! I'm just so lost with it all" she said her voice breaking slightly. I reached across to grab her hand giving it a kind squeeze.

"Kate, I know you don't like him; but I believe him and I accept his apologies. Please just give him a chance, I want my best friend back." I said my own voice breaking softly as I waited for Katelyn's reply.

"Gosh I hate you" she sniffled jokingly before pulling me into a hug which was much needed.

"I hate you too" I said back jokingly as a bright smile broke out onto my face. She pulled away also smiling giddily as I raised a concerned eyebrow.

"So... Rafe Cameron?" she asked with a disbelieving breath as I leaned back into my seat.

"Yeah..I know" I said a little stunned myself as the familiar tingle rushed across my lips.

"So have you two like made it offical? Wait. What was the fight about?" she asked excitedly as I finally had some drama and goss to spill to her about boys.

"Well, he asked why I kept running away from him and I said it was because of his tight hold on statuses and how he always dismisses any idea of romance between us when his friends are around." I started with a sigh.

"Then he accused me of being scared which I retaliated strongly against, obviously" I said and raised my eyebrows as Katelyn nodded contently.

"Then I said how it was all forced chemistry due to having to work together and then the game." I said as she sucked in a breath.

"And then what?" She asked impatiently.

"Well he then carried on to talk about our signs of attraction, my faults, so then I rushed and said show me that it is real and do something public."  I said and covered my hands with my face before groaning loudly. I heard Katelyn start to let out a few soft laughs before patting me on the back.

"Well I guess we'll see how much he really cares. I wonder what he'll do?" She asks wonderingly with a smirk on her lips.

"Probably something very extravagant or embarrassingly cute" I muttered and though of the endless possibilities. I rubbed my temples as I tried  to mentally prepare myself for whatever Rafe was now scheming.

"Or he will do something just right" Katelyn said with a gleeful smile before pulling out the park she hastily swerved into. She started to drive again as my gaze rested on the passing scenery. My lips curled into a soft smile as I whispered Katelyn's words back to myself.

Maybe it will be just right, I can't tell yet, but I know that if he does anything it will still mean it's real. So what am I really losing here? I just hope it doesn't involve dancing, that is not my strong suit.
