Mae's pov
I was walking with Katelyn through the school entrance, arm linked as she bounced on her feet, bubbly as ever.
"Do you think we'll get our geography grades back?" she asked and leaned her head on my shoulder. My eyebrow knitted together at her question as I tried to think what test we had done in geography.
"Kate, grades for what?" I asked my voice concerned unsure of what she was talking about. Katelyn pulled her head back to look me in the eye, worried and confused at the fact I didn't know what she was talking about.
"Mae, we had a test last week on coastal processes, waves and all that" she said as her breath drawled out as I still couldn't connect the dots.
"What day?" I asked, a lump forming in my throat as my stress levels rose.
"Friday, Friday morning" she said as I brought a hand up to cover my mouth as I groaned.
"I was with Rafe in Principal Thornton's office after he pushed me into the pool" I muttered annoyed at the fact I had missed another test which I probably take next period.
"He pushed you in the pool?" Katelyn hummed as I nodded.
"You went to Principals Thornton's office for at least the third time" she hummed again as I ducked my head before letting out a muffle hum in reply again.
"And you two are dating?" she asked still stunned at the unusual dynamic. I lifted my head and gave her a sarcastic smile to which she just giggled at me.
"Yes, we are" I said and rolled my eyes at her as we entered the high schools hallways.
I stopped in front of my locker to grab my books for the dreaded geography lesson, where I and Rafe would no doubt have to take the test. Suddenly there was a looming shadow over me as I raised my head towards the person. It was smiling, non-bothered, non-stressed, oblivious Rafe.
I assumed my facial expression didn't show much excitement or amusement but instead worry, stress and concern. I could feel the tiny wrinkle in my forehead made apparent with worry and how my lips down turned."What's wrong?" Rafe asked his smiling instantly slipping from his face at my distress.
I held up my geography book as a clue as he just furrowed his eyebrows in response."Did you drop the book on your foot? Forget to return it?" He guessed raising a confused eyebrow at me. I sighed heavily and clutched the book into my chest.
"Last week we had a geography test-" I started before he cut me off.
"What? No we didn't" he stated as I just coldly stared at him for cutting me off. He sucked a deep breath in quietening himself and allowing me to continue.
"It was on Friday, Friday morning. We were in Principal Thornton's office" I said and tilted my head to the side.
"Mmm we were" Rafe said a smirk growing on his face at the mention of our 'run in'. I kept a stern face at his somewhat joke as this was not a joking moment.
"Rafe." I scolded and reached out to hit his arm, a sign it was no time to joke. He cleared his throat and nodded as I starred at him wide-eyed in slight annoyance.
"We missed the geography test Rafe!" I nearly yelled at him as a groan of frustration slipped from my lips. Rafe leaned on the lockers with a thump as a hand stressfully raked back through his hair.
"And you think we will have to do it today?" he asked as I nodded biting my lip. Rafe drew his gaze down to his feet as he took a moment to think. I was replaying everything I had learnt over the last few weeks in my head as an attempt to study.
"Mae!" Rafe said excitedly and kicked his back off of the locker as I raised a questioning eyebrow at his sudden outburst.
"Rafe?" I said wearily back waiting for whatever idea he had to spill out from his lips in an instance.
"We can orchestrate a prank, get out of class and then have more time to study" he said looking as if he had a glowing lightbulb above his head like you'd see in cartoons.
"And get another punishment? Or have the troublesome act be put on our records? I don't think so" I said with a sigh as the bell quickly followed my sentence signalling that it was now geography time.
I shut my locker with a disgruntled huff as Rafe followed closely behind me on our way to geography. We turned into the classroom and took our assigned seats next to each other, both of us not looking overly enthused.
The teacher instructed the rest of the class whilst we waited for what was to come after; our test. Once the class started with their work she then made her way over to us, a small smile on her lips as she did so.
"Mabel, Rafe, as you probably already know you will be sitting a test this afternoon." She said softly as my stomach churned with nerves at the possibility of not passing it. She instructed us to leave to another classroom to take our test.
So I grabbed my pencil case, coloured pencils, ruler and calculator before standing up letting out a deep breath. I swiftly turned on my heel and continued my way out of the classroom. I could hear my teachers heels clicking against the floor and Rafe's shuffling feet behind me.
I was nearing the room when I nearly jumped out of my skin as a loud clanging noise echoed through the hallway. I clutched a hand to my chest and turned around to face Rafe. He was crouched over his calculator -which he must've dropped- now sprawled in pieces over the floor.
I bent down to help him scavenge the pieces in the hopes to put it back together. I handed him the few pieces I had collected with a light hearted smile.
"Well, you can't start until we get you another calculator Mr Cameron" Our teacher states before she starts to head back to the previous classroom and grab a spare calculator.
"So was that your grand plan? Dropping your calculator?" I asked with a light giggle as Rafe rolled his eyes at me.
"No, pure luck" he stated as he held the multiple pieces of his calculator in his hands. I stayed captured in a trance with Rafe, nerves washing away as I watch him roll his blue eyes and the corner of his mouth up turn.
"What you looking at?" he asked as I blinked a couple times reminding myself where was. I could already feel the nerves crawling back up inside me.
"Just your stupid face" I taunted and pressed my lips into a smirking smile as he pretended to be hurt. He brought a hand up to his chest and scoffed at me reply.
"1. That's hurtful and 2. You fell for this stupid face" he said as I bit my lip smiling. He took a step towards me as I ducked my head to think for a moment. I knew my heartbeat was quickening but I tried to ignore it when I parted my lips to reply.
"I did but-"
"Mabel Murchison can you please come to the Principal's office" The speaker boomed cutting me off as my eyebrow furrowed in more confusion. I looked at Rafe who looked equally confused at my presence being needed in the Principal's office.
"At least you get out of the geography test now" Rafe stated making a bewilderedly excited smile spread across my face.
"I guess so"
