Mae's pov

He walked forwards to where I stood a wicked grin on his face. I grimaced at the thought of what was about to come out of his mouth. Much to my dismay, he reached up and took a piece of my hair in his fingers as he hummed to himself, in wonder. My lips parted as a shaky breath left them. My eyes stayed fixated on his fingers which held my hair gently, for some weird reason I felt butterflies stir in my stomach. I quickly dismissed it as nerves about his next words.

"There's No Way you'll dye your hair that Prussian-blue shade" he said as my eyes flicked back up to his. That stupid smirk on his face. I furrowed my eyebrows at him before stepping back, suddenly feel uncomfortable with how close he was. I forgot my hair was in his hand so when I moved back, he subconciously tugged my hair. I let out a squeal at the sudden pain and my hands flew to my hair and Rafe's hand as I stepped back forward. My fingers curled around his fingers as I unlatched my hair from his hand. I sighed in relief and didn't dare look up as what just happened was rather embarrassing. I pulled my hand away from his and dropped it back to my side.

"Sure. I just said that if I did dye my hair I would dye it that colour" I said trying to deflect the atttention away from myself as I pointed out the flaw in his dare. My cheeks were a light shade of pink as I lifted my eyes to meet his after a few moments.

His eyes were apologetic, but I just overlooked it thinking it was my imagination again. His lips were parted slightly and his eyes soon narrowed at my witty reply.

"Cut it" he said sharply.

"What?" I stated quickly back but I had heard what he said, I was just in shock. I was still holding the ends of my long hair which he held before. He tilted his head down at me his eyes gazing at my protective grasp on my hair. I didn't mind dying it, that was something I would be keen to do, but cutting it was something I wasn't so willing to do.

"Cut it...." he said a little less aggressively.

"Rafe, I am not going to cut my hair" I said and lifted the worksheet, shifting my focus back to it. I noticed him glance away in frustration as I scanned for the next question. I was about ask him it when he spoke out into the room.

"There No Way you'd you cut your hair" he said and my eyes snapped back up to his. I lifted the paper up to my cover my face before I let out a groan.

"I can't - I can't look at you right now." I said angrily and took a few deep breaths.

"What's wrong Minnie Mae? Don't want your hair a little shorter?" Rafe taunted and I slowly lowered the piece of paper in front of my face. I saw him gulp as my cold gaze washed over him. My gaze was much colder than I had ever had before. Nobody ever messed with my hair before and therefore I was pissed. I loved having long hair.

"I will do it because I am a fair sport, unlike you" I said bitterly and grabbed my tote bag walking past him to his bedroom door. He wasn't following me so I turned around and faced his unexpected looking self.

"Well, are you gonna take me to get my hair cut or not?" I snapped and he hesitated before he moved to follow me.

I didn't say anything for the whole drive, I just knew I had to come up with a dare for him. Something really good to get back at him for it.

We walked into the hair salon and Rafe kept sneaking glance at me. I remained calm and showed no sign of nerves but my heart was beating out of my chest.

I instructed the hairdresser to cut my hair from its mid-back length to an top of the shoulder blades length was the best way I could describe it.

When she sat me down in front of the mirror I didn't dare look at my reflection or at Rafe. I kept my eyes starring down at my lap even when I heard her make that first cut with the scissors. I grimaced as she continued to make those sharp slicing noises with the scissors. When she moved away for a moment I grabbed the worksheet out of my bag and shoved it in a direction where I thought Rafe was.

"Fill it out"

Was the only words I could muster in the midst of having my hair changed from the look I have had for years. Probably the whole time Rafe has known me.

I felt him take the paper out of my hand and start writing using his own pen which he must've brought. I was thankful he didn't put up a fight.

When the lady was done with my hair and took the massive cape thing off of me I felt a slight weight being lifted off of my chest. I had completed the challenge but now I needed to look at myself in the mirror.

I flicked my eyes up slowly and took in my new appearance. The first thing I noticed was how light and bouncy my wavy curls now were. It was all so much lighter, it astonished me, my hair was never like this. But what did I expect, I had never really cut it before.

Somehow in some way it made me look more grown up, more sophisticated, more like my mother.

I thanked the lady and paid what was owed for the fabulous transformation. We then left the hair salon and made our way back into Rafe's car. The whole way he was eyeing me and my giddy smile.

"Not so bad after all Murchison?" He asked smugly and I rolled my eyes jokingly.

"Whatever Cameron" I replied back and played with the ends of my hair. I saw a light smirk rest across gis face out the corner of my eye, but in the end it wasn't really a smirk.

It was more like a smile.
