𝐍𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐲 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 ♛ ͏r͏a͏f͏e ͏c͏a͏m͏e͏r͏o͏n

38.

"Okay, I'm just going to publish it"- me after analyzing this for hours and fixing every possible thing I could find. I also rewrote various parts of this countless times over. Yet I still dislike my writing of this chapter but I tried HARD.

Mae's pov

"You said it was going to be calming!" I yelled as I tightened my grip on the ladder railing. I heard a heartful chuckle echo from Rafe's lips behind me as I tried not to look down.

We were currently half way up the ladder of the local water tower and when I tell you I feel unsafe; I freaking mean it. The ladder looked rusted and old alongside with the rest of the structure, seeming as if it could collapse at any moment.  I wasn't afraid of heights but this was stupidly dangerous and I wondered why we were even doing this!

"It will be once we reach the top" Rafe called up at me his voice soft and reassuring but however it was not calming my nerves in any way. I huffed and continued climbing up the ladder my heart beating out of my chest as I did so.

"You better hope it is..." I muttered bitterly under my breath. 

Soon enough we were at the top and my hands were still shaking as I stepped onto the metal landing. I slowed my breathing and pressed my back against the water as I turned around to face Rafe.

He had this massive grin across his lips and that thrilled shine in his blue eyes as he stepped onto the landing. He resisted a laugh as he looked at me with my back pressed tightly up against the water tower and a shaky look on my face.

"Where's this calming bit you were talking about?" I pestered him a little agitated as my foot began tapping again; my own nervous trait. He stepped in front of me and I felt my muscles relax as his fingers skimmed over my palm. 

"Around the other side" he whispered in the space between as I frowned at the fact I would have to move from my 'safe' spot. His other hand came up to my face as his thumb grazed over the soft skin of my cheek. His other hand ventured further down into my hand as his finger laced around mine. I felt my breathing calm as I tried to block out the thought we were hundred or so metres up in the air.

"Walk with me" He pleads gently and started to move to the side. I smiled softly as I tried to allow myself to fall into the safety of him. I squeezed his hand as I moved with him around the water tower, feeling much safer in his presence.

I grimaced as the sun blinding made it ways onto our faces as we reached the other side. It took my eyes a moment to regain their focus before seeing the stunning the landscape in front of me. I could see the end of our island, the ocean, beaches, horizon, everything.

I was so memorized as I went to take another step I seemed to knock something over with my foot. I jumped back into Rafe as I tightened my grip on his hand and clung to him once more giving myself a fright.

 Rafe chuckled tauntingly as I blushed with pure embarrassment at the fact I scared myself before burying my head into Rafes chest. I could not only hear but could feel Rafes chest moving up and down as he chuckled more at me before I let out a low groan.

"I never used to embarrass myself before I met you" I defended myself.

"What are you implying?" Rafe asked a little confused by my statement as I lifted my head to connect my gaze with his.

"You made me goofier" I said and gave him a fake frown of disapproval. He scoffed at me and titled his head away as he rolled his eyes.

"I was never goofy. It is all you" he taunted back with the click of his tongue. I coughed as I resisted the roaring laughter in my throat.

"Mmm sure" I said narrowing my eyes teasingly as his hand gave mine a squeeze. I stood there for a moment watching the small smirk on his lips and the shine in his blue eyes. I bit slowly down on my lip as I swiped my thumb back and forward across his hand. 

I saw how the movement made his smirk bigger and my heart fluttered when he started to lean down. His lips were only mere centimetres away from mine as I felt his breath fan over my lips making me exhale sharply. I giggled as I stepped forward pressing my chest against his and teasing him as I turned my head to the side so my cheek was facing his lips.

I expected him to make some quirky remark but instead his lips fluttered against my cheek and I could still feel the smile his lips were curved in. Much to my dismay again I expected him to turn my face back towards him as peck my lisps under the setting sun out in front of us.

However my knee's grew weak as his fingers skimmed over the tender skin of my neck, drifting my hair over my shoulder as he placed another kiss on my cheek. I smiled tenderly at the sensation but then a surprisingly sultry moan harshly escaped my lips as lips trailed under my jaw and along my neck.

I blushed brightly as Rafe smirked against my tender skin, his fingers looping through my hair gaining better access to my neck. I started to become breathless as he pressed his lips harder into my jaw line. I could only imagine the colouration it now displayed and Katelyn would be so....startled by it.

Rafe's lips soon left the expanse of my neck as I tried to focus myself and my breathing. Shortly after I desperately gripped the back of his neck and pulled his lips down to mine. Rafe, startled, moaned louder then he intended to as I felt his neck heat up with the presence of a blush.

"Hope I'm not embarrassing you now as well" I whispered between ragged breaths as I ended the kiss.

"Not at all, but you still don't even know what you kicked over." He whispered back as our noses pressed together. His hands fell from my hair and let go of my hand as he turned me around by my waist.

My eyes lit up at the sight in front of me and the butterflies in my stomach erupted. There was a gorgeous picnic like scene set up where the barrier was more then just a railing but a solid wall enclosing us with the gorgeous sunsetting view.

"Oh Rafe I did doubt you... but this is calming"
