The couple laughed as they walked around their favorite fields, before putting down the same old yellow patterned blanket they could sit on,
Cassandra settled a basket full of leftover pastries she had gathered before she left beside them as Gilbert gladly took one of the tarts and popped it into his mouth.
"I met the new girl today," She says, "Ah, isn't she the orphan that the Cuthberts took in?" He questioned, "Her name is Anne, with an E. She was very adamant to not forget the E." She trails as she ate the banana bread she had in her basket,
Sketching an outline of the fields and the nature that surrounds them, "She seems very...unique? Well, she uses so many big words, much bigger for me to comprehend, and she had these traumatic experiences as well... At first, I reacted sort of mean but... I apologized." She tells him, that the boy couldn't help but get curious as the girl told him of Anne.
"Traumatic experiences?" He queries, "Well..." The girl stops her scribbling as she looked him directly in the eye, indicating that she was serious with what she was about to say.
"Earlier, she and Diana apparently saw Prissy and Mr. Phillips in the supply room, I don't know what they saw but the girls talked about it during lunchtime, it was disgusting. Anne said that they were having intimate relations-" She was cut off, "Intimate relations?!" Gilbert exclaims, "I know right?!"
Though the girl continued, "And then there was a sudden mention of rats? I don't know- the girls were giggling and stuff but I couldn't even understand why there was a mouse involved in the story! Then Anne went on and told everyone about the past family she was with and how she heard everything and got beaten by a wooden spoon."
She explains to a very confused but shocked Gilbert Blythe.
"Alright," The boy sat up properly, "First of all, why were there rats? And intimate relations-?! Prissy is a student and Mr. Phillips is a teacher!" He shouts, "My exact reaction!" Cassie agreed,
"And why did you have to apologize?" Gilbert asks, lowering his voice a bit, "The girls started to put their food away and called her trash and that they didn't want to eat next to trash, then I stood up as well, but even before the girls did, then she looked at me and I couldn't form any words to say to her so I just ran! It was terribly mean and out of character of me to do so, so I apologized." The blonde rambles, pulling out different colored crayons to color her drawing,
