Cole and her mother visited for tea that day, though while they painted, Cassandra couldn't understand a word that left Cole's mouth as she worried about Anne, and more importantly, her feelings for Gilbert.
It has been a few days, and the redhead was still nowhere to be seen. At some point, the blonde overheard that Diana and Ruby had planned to return Anne's things,
The night was cozy and comforting until an alarming bell rang to warn the city.
Cassandra sprang from her bed as she did, calling out to her brother and mother,
"Joseph! There's a fire! Hurry up and wake up!" She shakes her brother awake.
"Uh- get the buckets, hurry! I'll run over there and see what I can do-" He said in a panicked voice, putting his coat and cap on as their mother prepared the carriage and Cassandra picked up all the buckets she could find.
As they neared the blazing house, the girl realized it was Ruby Gillis's house.
"Oh no! Ruby!" She shouts, carrying two buckets as she hurries toward what looked like the Gillis family,
"Ruby!" She calls, seeing Diana with the girl, "Are you alright? Is everyone out?" She asks as the younger blonde nods with tears brimming her eyes,
"Good. Good." The girl mutters, hugging Ruby close.
Cassandra has treated Ruby as her younger sister, she didn't know what she'll do if she was still in that house,
"Anne!" Diana shouts, the commotion booming over as the men helped to put the fire out,
Anne and Diana talked for a bit before Cassandra saw a sprinting redhead towards the house, "Anne?!" She yells, "Diana! What is Anne doing?!" She speedily walks towards the raven-haired girl, "I don't know- she just ran, something about windows being open and-" The girl rambles,
"Damn it," The girl cursed before running after Anne, "Wait! Cassie!" Diana and Ruby called after the girl but they couldn't stop her as she was already in the blazing house.
Smoked filled her lungs as she entered the Gillis house, looking for the redhead who was upstairs closing all the doors and windows.
She looked in the kitchen first, then the parlor, then the bathroom, but when she was about to go upstairs, she wheezed and coughed, hanging on to the railings,
