Cassandra Deighton awoke in her room, her old room.
She was confused,Why was she here? Where was her father? Why does she look...younger?
Though her thoughts were halted by the delicious smell of freshly baked muffins that wafted her way.
Impossible.
She thought, as the muffins she was smelling,
was exactly like her mother's.
Who was playing with her?
Slowly stepping down the steps of her old house, she was surprised as her mother met her.
Her mother. The beautiful, breath-taking, bluebell eyes of her mother.
her mother.
"Mama?"
A tear slides down her cheek as she spoke the two-syllable words she didn't know she would ever speak again,
"Dearie! Oh, you're awake," Her mother huffs, "Come and sit dear, the muffins just finished baking." She softly smiles at her daughter,
her soft smile.
"Where am I, mama?" She asks through her tears,
"Why you're at home of course, where else would you think you'd be?" The older woman answers,"Where...where is Joseph?" She asks
"Right outside, doing his morning routines."
"Why am I back here?"
"Are you alright dear? Why have you been asking these silly questions"Her mother laughed,
her laugh,
"Come and sit, have this, I know it's your favorite."
mom.
"I hear Gilbert's coming over,"
She starts,"Gilbert?"
Cassandra questions, chewing a small piece of the deliciously soft bread,"Yes dear, your fiancee?"
"My fiancee!?"
She nearly choked,
"Oh, dear,"
Her mother mutters,
Though it seems that time has been going too fast,
The skies she observed out her window have been changing colors repeatedly,
"I have got no much time,"
She continues, barely whispering
"Where are we, mom?"
Cassandra asks as she stood, walking towards her mother dearest,
"A good place. A safe place. Where I'll always be."
Her mother explains, finally facing her,
Tears both escaped from their eyes,
"I just missed you dear. I just wanted you to see, to clear your mind, to make you see the path of happiness."
Her mother explains,
"A path of happiness?"
She whispers,
Though before she could get more answers,
Her hands seemed to waver,
Her mother's silhouette seemed to sway,
This was just a dream.
"I love you, Cassie."
And just like that, she awoke, on her own bed, her new room, her own self.
Looking around, she breathes sharply,
The moon shines through her window,
It was still the dead of night.
Her mother had appeared in her dreams,
Her prayers, were being answered.
She met her mother again,
Hopefully, not for the last time.
Though that was the limit,
She couldn't feel her touch,
She wouldn't be able to hear her voice,
She wouldn't be able to see her precious eyes,
For she was gone,
Forever, would she only appear in her dreams.
