The sun had risen and Mrs. Deighton held Cassandra and Joseph close, after a small prayer, Mrs. Lynde had called to them to talk about who goes to who just for temporary,

"Alright, it's settled. The Gillis family will be billeted out to the Barrys, the Cuthberts, the Deightons, and ourselves." Mrs. Lynde says,

"All the men pulling together, we figure the major repairs will take about a week." Mr. Lynde states, "Sounds about right," Mr. Barry remarks, "Jerry and I will put things right in Green Gables and be back as soon as we can." Mr. Cuthbert added, "As will I, I'll bring as many hands as I can." Mr. Barry continued,

The adults continued to talk and mentioned Anne and Cassandra,

"No, it's all Anne. All I did was run after her it was all stupidity on my part," Cassandra chuckled, "Oh please, your bravery in saving your peer, I don't think I'd be able to do what you just did in my time," Mrs. Gillis smiled, cradling her baby as Cassandra returned her gesture.

"And ladies, thank you kindly for agreeing to take the children. Especially since school won't be in session. You'll have your hands full." Mrs. Deighton nodded as Mrs. Gillis spoke,

"Ruby, Becka, and Sam? Come here please," Mrs. Gillis calls, "It's no trouble at all, we're happy to have her," Ms. Cuthbert states, "It will be fun to have little ones running around the house again since my Cassie is in her way to growing up." Mrs. Deighton grins as she cleaned off the leftover ash on Cassandra's face.

"Now Anne and Ruby can get each other better and the girls can learn a bit or two from pretty Cassie here." Mrs. Gillis compliments, "What? No. Mother!" Ruby exclaims, her lips trembling.

Cassandra looked at the girl with worry, she'll confess, she did want Ruby to come with her instead, though it was already decided before she could protest.

A hand grabbed Cassandra's arm, leading her away from the group, she realized it was Gilbert.

"You're alright, right?" He queried as Cassandra smiled and nodded in reply, "No need to worry, I'm still breathing." She giggled,

The boy huffed in relief before his face contorted into a slight scowl, "What were you thinking, Cassandra!" He exclaims, the girl's eyes widened as Gilbert had never yelled at her before, nor used 'Cassandra'.

"What-? I'm sorry, I-" She stutters, "You're what? You didn't think! Again! Do you remember the last time you did something like this?! Stop putting yourself in situations you can't control!" The boy fumed, "I'm sorry- I just- Anne ran in and I-" "You thought that running in after her would help?! You made us worried sick when you didn't come out with her!" He scolds,

Before Cassandra could reply, her mother arrived to save her in time, "Cassie, let's go. You need to get yourself in a warm bath, and oh- Gilbert, if you need anything, darling, come to the house and just ask, alright?" Her mother noticed,

Gilbert nodded hesitantly as he looked away from the girl with tears in her eyes, she had never seen the boy like this, breathing sharply she wiped her tears away and followed her mother home,

The boy looked at the girl with guilty eyes while the girl's heart ached at his words.

Freshly bathed Cassandra quietly sat in the dining room, sipping tea with Rebecka and Samantha, replaying what Gilbert had said.

"Go on now, girls. You'll both sleep in Cassie's room. Cassie, take care of your guest." Her mother said as she prepared her baking tools,

"But mother, I should help you get eggs or bake?" Cassandra stood, her mother looked at her with a slight glare, "You are grounded for two weeks, little lady. What you did back there was brave and heroic but also idiotic and reckless." Her mother reprimands her,

"You will stay in your room, go to school when it resumes, and come back home. No more meetings with Gilbert or Diana and I'm confiscating your art supplies!" Her daughter had a shocked look on her face as she yells, "Mother-!" Cassandra cried,

"No buts! Now get yourself up to the bed," She tells in a sharp tone, "And you too dearies," Her tone changes a whole degree, from the scariest to the kindest.

Cassandra rolls her eyes, marching her way towards her room with a heavy stomp, followed by little steps who were terrified and upset.

Cassandra closed her door with a slam after the two girls got in, they held each other's hands, their faces mirrored their emotions, fear in both their eyes.

"Oh, I'm sorry- I didn't mean to... Here, let's get you guys in something a little comfortable, I think I still have my dresses here when I was your age..." Cassandra mutters as she opens her wardrobe,

And in the bottom cabinet were her old dresses, laces, and nightgowns,

"Here we are," She smiled sweetly at the two,

"Samantha..." The blonde trails as she examined the girl, "I think you'd look good in dark blue!" She scrambles, taking out a blue dress decorated with pearls and had snowflake patterns,

"You can change into this in there," She points to a little secluded area in her room,

"Now... Becka... You'll look absolutely gorgeous in pink! Just like your older sister, hm?" She giggled as the girl nodded, taking out a coral-colored dress with a lace collar and ruffles.

"This is so pretty," Rebecka says, her eyes filled with astonishment, "I'm glad you like it," Cassandra grins, "Oh my, Sam! You look like a little princess," She compliments as Becka rushed to change her dress,

"Just one thing missing!" She pretends to be in thought before getting a flower crown from her vanity cabinet, a blue and pink one she made with Cole when they were young.

The girls rushed to her as the whole time they were in her room, they were either playing dress up and braiding each other's hair or had fallen into a deep sleep.

Either way, Cassandra was happy and content.

So this was what being a big sister felt like...
