"Oh, dear. Cassandra Esme Deighton!" Her mother roared her name, "Why on Earth have you come this late?! You're ice cold! Have you no care for your well-being? For our well-being for worrying for you!?" Her mother lectured, ushing her inside and taking the lantern with her,

"I'm tired mother," She sighed, "Well how can you not be?! Do you know how worried we were when that Anne came knocking telling us you've left?!" She yells, Cassandra's eyes widen, Anne went here.

"What has gotten to your mind that you decided to leave?!" Her mother furiously started to warm water, "Gilbert's gone, mom!" The girl retorted, "Well I know he is, but that is no reason for you to follow him and come home freezing!" Her mother replied,

Her vision grew red at her mother's response,

"You knew he'll leave?!" She screamed, "Well of course I did! Who do you think gave him parent's clearance to work, eh?" She was beyond furious at this point,

"And you didn't tell me?!" She yelled, "What business do you have with it?!" Her mother said back, "Doesn't my feelings matter to both of you at all!? He was my friend too! I care for him as well! I love him!" The blonde cried,

Her mother stopped for a moment to look at the girl sadly, realizing her mistake of keeping it from her,

"Now dear, calm down." She sighed, "No! You decide to just give him the freedom to leave me! Leave us! What's going to happen now?! What if he can't handle himself and is thrown dead overboard?!" She exaggerated, breaking whatever she saw, which was the lantern her mother held,

The glass smashed into a thousand shards as the girl gasped at the noise, Joseph's steps echoed down the stairs as her mother huffed and went to pick it up,

Only to be cut by her palm, blood went down her hand and stained the floor.

Cassandra cried as she tried to help though her mother only pushed her away.

"Joseph! Take Cassandra to her room." Her mother ordered, "You girl, will stay in there and think of what you've done. Hurt or not, you have no right to disrespect me like this! This is not how I raised you, Cassandra." Her mother clicked her tongue as Cassandra ran to her room sobbing,

She thought of how her life had changed in just a matter of minutes. She felt like her world collided at the disappearance of Gilbert Blythe.

Though if only she knew how it was about to get much worse.
