At first, the girl thought that their journey would be endless and unfortunate. But then, it wasn't as she had imagined. Her father used to just be a void in her life; she had believed that he was a coward to have left his family. Though just as always, she was proven wrong.

Her father was ever-loving and fun to be with. The past year in France made her believe that everything she had just been through was just a series of nightmares. This was her happy ending, or at least it felt as if.

It didn't matter to her anymore though, as the year she spent in France had been a thrill. They have been reunited with their father, they have met their aunt and uncle who are surprisingly running the most prestigious university in France, Joseph was accepted in Sorbonne to learn Engineering, her father has been teaching her French, and she had been learning in a school just a few blocks away from their home.

Home, yes, they were definitely home. And in that house, Cassandra found herself capable of forgiving. She was in a better place now, a place that had filled the void in her heart with love. She had forgotten her sorrows in the past, the tears she had shed just because of a measly boy.

She had found herself slowly forgiving Gilbert as she had forgotten her love for him truly, it was all a love of a child, puppy love in a slang language. It was all childish love that she had fallen into.

She was seventeen now, and she had given herself the courage to open a letter she had received a long time ago.

A letter from her past, a letter from Anne.

...

"Gold in Avonlea sounds very fictitious, you know Anne had sent that letter, right? I remember that odd girl was just as imaginative as this letter." Joseph states as he took a bite from his meal,

The family was eating their dinner when Cassandra had brought up the content of the letter she had received two months after they had met their father. Joseph thought it was all a sham while their father, kept silent.

"I know, not a big deal now, it was sent months ago. I'm sure the excitement has subsided." Cassandra casually replies,

"Do you want to visit Avonlea?" Their father perked a question both weren't expecting to hear, "Go back to Avonlea?! Of course not! I like my life here better than my life back there," Joseph suddenly exclaims, "Cass?" Her father calls, "I do not need to go back father, though if I did have a choice, I would. I had friends there, friends whom I promised I'd be back." She mutters,

"You couldn't possibly decide to go back! We've escaped from that poor lifestyle, Cassie. I thought we've moved on!" Joseph whines, "Moving on doesn't mean forgetting who I've left," Cassandra shouts back,

"Alright, both of you, silence." Their father exclaims, "I agree with Cassandra, maybe it is time to just visit." Their father notes, "I will not be going with you," Joseph stubbornly declares, "I will accept that," Their father replies, looking at Cassandra next, waiting for her reply,

"I would want to come with," The girl says, "Good, then. Joseph, don't be vexed. I just... I just want to visit your mother's burial." Their father explained,

His statement made both of them quiet, both understanding his reason, both knowing why he'd want to.

"May I be excused?" Joseph stood us as he asked, though their father only nodded back as a response,

The older boy ran up his room in a second,

"He'll be alright, dad. I think he's the one who hasn't moved on yet." Cassandra smiled, "I've noticed." Their father teased as he smiled back,

Like father like daughter, after all.

The cold in Avonlea slowly subsided, giving them a chance to play hockey in a sun-filled forest with a frozen lake just big enough to play in.

Anne had just arrived at the scene, riding on her horse; they were supposed to be writing this for their school newspaper, and Anne had tasked Ruby to be noting down important highlights of the game, though she was hesitating to see if she had done a good job.

Saying hello to her group of friends, she noticed the notebook buried on the snowy ground, curiously she picked it up to see that nothing was written on it.

"Ruby? You're supposed to be covering the game." Anne mentions to the girl, "Where are the highlights? Do you even know the score?" She queried the girl, "It's just a school newspaper, Anne, not the Daily Telegraph." Josie reasoned,

"We don't even need an article about the game, we're all here." Ruby mentions, though Anne's eyebrows furrowed at her answer, "Cassandra's not here." She uttered with annoyance,

"Cassandra hasn't been here for the last two years, Anne. I wouldn't be too hopeful for her to come back." Josie replies, "She's busy ogling you-know-who!" Tillie giggles hysterically,

Though a brief mention about Cassandra had caught a brunette's attention unintentionally.

"Uh, isn't Ruby covering the game?" He says to cover the perk of his ears at the mention of the girl's name he desperately longed for.

"Ruby's very preoccupied with a certain someone," Tillie answered with a cheeky smile, the boy only nodded in reply,

"Uh, Anne? Have you...Might have you- heard about Cass?" He stuttered as he asked, catching the attention of the redhead who gave him a sad smile, "I've sent that letter a year ago, Gilbert. She hasn't replied, we've been set to think that the letter has been lost." She replies as she continued to write for the game,

"A-Alright, thanks." She says with a quick tip of his cap before returning to the game,

What a pity, many thought. They knew how the boy loved the girl, but then again, he was who left first.

And now, he's just suffering the consequences of his actions.
