Jimin slipped out of my apartment early in the morning with a reassuring whisper that he was only a phone call away if I needed him. I sleepily thanked him and then slipped back into slumber, his words feeling like a warm hug wrapping me in safety.
Periodically I wake up throughout the morning, but the exhaustion refuses to dissipate. My eyes unable to fight their way open remain closed as I drift in out of sleep. When I finally pry, my eyes open and reach for my phone it's already ten in the morning, and I have a long list of message notifications waiting for me.
Hobie: How are you feeling this morning?
Jae: Just checking in on you. Are you OK?
JK: Hi, I just wanted to make sure you are OK.
Jimin: Remember, I'm here if you need me.
Tae: Our kids miss you and want to make sure their mother is ok. Come home soon, please.
Namjoon: It's Joon. I'm always here if you need an ear to listen.
Jin: Hana and I are here if you need to talk. Reach out to either of us or both. Remember to eat something.
The last message whisks the air from my lungs and makes me pause:
Yoongi: Play your anthem today. It will help you stay strong. I'm here if you'd like to talk.
Overwhelmed, I need a moment to sort my thoughts. As I pad to the kitchen, I am met with a throbbing pain in my knee from pushing it yesterday. After putting some water on for tea, I retrieve an icepack from the freezer and think about all the replies I need to tackle.
I return to my bed with a warm cup of comfort and place the pack on my knee as I tackle my replies.
