It was a tragic accident one that 5 year old tk could never understand it was a sunny day the perfect day to go out and play
His sister Luna at the time was 8 and was determined on teaching tk to ride a bike so out they went they tried a few times only to result in tk falling so Luna took it upon herself to demonstrate while tk watched tk sat on the side walk as his sister rode up and down around and around until a car came flying up the road and just like that a split second his sister was gone
Tk cried and cried as his mother held him against her stomach to try and prevent him watching as the paramedics worked on his sister but he could still see he could see all of it he watched his sister die he watched as the paramedics stopped working on his sister as the blood rushed out of the gash on her head instead his mother held him tighter as she violently sobbed
He wished it was him on the pavement so his mother and father maybe wouldn't be so sad Luna was always the easy child she listened when she was told something and never disappointed she made his parents so happy now they were stuck with him ..
20 years later
"Help! My sister she's hurt please !" The boy screamed " my names tk can you tell me what happened to your sister ?" Tk said in attempts to get further information while Nancy accessed the patient " she was trying to teach me a cool trick on her bike .. the car it came out of nowhere it all happened so fast !" The boy cried " look we are gonna do everything we can to save your sister okay ?" Tk said as the little boy nodded " she's bottoming out ." Nancy said "starting compressions prepare to shock ." Tk said
With each compression and no change Tk's hope faded as the little boy cried and the minutes passed "let's call it .." Nancy said " hold on okay maybe -." Tk said continuing compressions " tk -." Tommy said " she's gone -." Nancy said the little boy bursted into tears " let's get him out of here ." Tommy said
Tk sat on the sidewalk with the kid as he started at the street " I'm really sorry we couldn't help your sister ...." Tk admitted " it should have been me ." The little boy said " no that's not true ." Tk said "she does everything right all I do is mess it up !" The little boy said " look I haven't met your parents but I'm pretty sure they love you just as much as your sister and you don't mess everything up okay ?" Tk said " none of this is your fault." Tk said as the boy rested his hand on Tk's shoulder
The ride back to the station was quiet Tommy decided to end the shift early so tk went to go get his belongings " I heard about the call you had ." Owen said appearing in the door way " that's a tough one ." Owen admitted walking closer " dad ." Tk swallowed " what's up kiddo ." Owen said sitting on the bench " do you ever wish that it was me instead of Luna ." Tk said
"Never cause I love you both .. and although I miss your sister I have you and I'm happy about that ." Owen said patting the bench " come sit down ." Owen said " I'm so proud of you and everything you've done ." Owen said " and that will never change ." Owen said rubbing Tk's shoulder " why does it feel like she just died ?" Tk asked laying his head on Owens shoulder "because you never forgave yourself todays call just dug up grief ,grief that you though you got over ." Owen said " and that's little boys sister dying is not your fault you need to forgive yourself for Luna and that boys sister that's the only way your gonna be able to move on ." Owen said " you have to let Luna go ." Owen said kissing the top of Tk's head
A knock came on Carlos's door later that night when Carlos opened the door " I'm sorry - can I just stay here .. tonight please ." tk just stood there his eyes were red giving Carlos all the information he needed he opened his arms wrapping them around tk
Later that night when tk was ready they talked " we had a call earlier this little boy and his older sister were outside playing and just like that a car came and hit her that boy watched his little sister die right in front of him ." Tk said " that's horrible ...." Carlos said " it's all pretty horrible ." Tk said as a tear dropped from his face " I have a sister ." Tk admitted " you have a sister ?" Carlos said " Luna she died when I was 5 .." tk said
" one day we went outside she wanted to teach me how to ride a bike And a car hit her I had to watch as the paramedics worked on her until there was nothing left .. my sister - she was only 8 ." Tk said starting to cry " baby I'm so sorry ." Carlos said kissing Tk's forehead
