"Ellie, who did this to you?" I begged.

"Why are you here?" She whispered so low that I couldn't hear her.

"Ellie, what are you saying?"

"Why did you have to be here when I am trying to forget you?" She yelled hoarsely. She sniffled quietly, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.

Tears welled up deep inside and streamed down her cheeks. She covered her face with shaking hands and wiped her cheeks every few seconds.

She was overwhelmed with emotions, unable to contain her sadness and frustration. Her heart felt like it was being ripped into pieces and she was struggling to keep it together. The thought of seeing him again had brought back all of her feelings, and the tears were a sign of her inner turmoil.

I was at a loss for words, standing there in stunned silence. I had no idea what to say or do. I could only take in the sight of Ellie, and feel the weight of what I had done to her.

I wanted to apologize, to make her pain go away, but I knew that it was too late for that. I wanted to reach out and hug her, but I was too scared to move.

So I stood there, watching her cry until the tears had run dry.

"Ellie, I'm so sorry," I said softly. "I never meant to hurt you like this."

She looked up at me, her eyes red and swollen, and she nodded.

I pulled her close, holding her tight against me as she sobbed. She clung to me as if I was her only anchor in this storm, wrapping her arms around my waist in a desperate embrace.

I buried my face in her hair, feeling her body trembling and her tears soaking my shirt. We stayed like that for a long time, until she finally stopped crying and the only sound was our breathing.

"Let's go home," I whispered softly, still not letting lose hold of her.

She looked up at me, her eyes wide with shock. I could see the shock on her face, as if she couldn't believe that I was still here, still willing to help her despite all she had said.

She pulled away from me, taking a few steps back. She wiped her eyes and looked away, her face still wet with tears.

She shook her head and said, "No, I can't."

"Then where do you want to go? The police?" I asked urgently, eager to leave the alleyway.

She kept looking at the end of the alley, as if something or someone was waiting for her. I followed her gaze, but there was nothing there.

I could see the fear in her eyes, the fear of the unknown and the fear of being alone. She was scared of what might happen if she left with me, but she was even more scared of staying in the alley and facing whatever was waiting for her.

She went on her tiptoes and whispered, "44 Briarwood Rd. New York, NY 10028."

She stepped closer to me and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek. I felt her warm breath on my skin and I could see the sadness in her eyes, but she was determined to not let it show.

She stepped back and smiled at me, then turned and walked away without a word. I watched her until she disappeared around the corner.

I stood there, feeling a mix of emotions. I felt the warmth of her kiss, the sadness in her eyes, but also the strength of her determination not to break down.

"Why the hell did you take so long?" The voice of the man before me snapped me out of my trance. I turned and saw him, leaning against a wall with his arms crossed and an annoyed expression on his face.

He glared at me with a mixture of anger and disappointment. "You took too long," he said accusingly, as if she had done something wrong. I could tell he was angry at me for making him wait.

He muttered something under his breath as he walked away, but I could not make out the words.

I watched as they both disappeared into the night, their footsteps fading away until there was nothing left but the echo of their voices.

I shrugged off the feeling of unease that had settled in my chest and tried to focus on the task at hand.

I had to keep moving and find out what was really going on. I had a feeling that the answers I was looking for wouldn't come easy.

I took a deep breath and steeled myself for what was to come. I knew I had to trust my instincts and stay alert. There was more to this puzzle than I initially thought.

I had to stay focused and use my critical thinking skills to figure out what was going on.

I had to look for clues and connections that would help me solve the puzzle. I had to trust my gut that I could figure it out.

I laid my back against the cold brick wall, feeling the chill of the night air as it seeped through my clothes. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to clear my mind.

I was worried that I would not be able to uncover the truth and that I would be too late. I was also worried that I would not be able to protect the people I cared about.

My heart raced as I thought about the danger and uncertainty that lay ahead. I was afraid of the unknown and I felt a sense of dread as I prepared myself for the journey ahead. I knew I had to be brave and face whatever challenges lay ahead of me.

I took a deep breath, trying to quell the fear that threatened to overwhelm me. I knew I had to stay focused and alert if I wanted to succeed in my mission.

With one last glance back into the alleyway, I stepped out into the light and began my search for the truth.

I walked quickly to my car, keeping my head down and my keys clutched tightly in my hand. I checked the backseat and the trunk of the car before unlocking the door and getting in.

I took a deep breath and started the engine, feeling my heart pounding in my chest. I put the car in gear and drove off, my eyes scanning the street for any signs of trouble. . . .
