Y/N couldn't help but notice Lindir's absence from the feast, more so, it was very unlike him to miss the merrymaking that followed, after everyone had filled their bellies with the delicious food that had been overflowing the long tables. With a furrowed brow, they stood leaning against one of the intricate pillars while nursing a goblet of wine between their palms, their mind trying to work out what would keep Lindir from attending the festivities. He wasn't one to miss hearing a good song, not until now apparently. An unpleasant feeling was beginning to form at the pits of Y/N's stomach, a tiny voice inside their head telling them that something was wrong, or that something bad was about to happen. Or was already happening for all they knew.

Y/N beckoned one of the messengers and asked him kindly to see if he could find Lindir for them. Their eyes followed the messenger elf as he rushed to fulfil his task, leaving Y/N to play the game they loathed above all else – the waiting game.

After several goblets of wine that made the waiting a little bit more bearable, the messenger elf returned with news of Lindir. Y/N learned that he had escaped to the gardens which were always empty around this time of day; and had respectfully refused to attend the festivities no matter who it was that demanded his presence. Y/N was left to ponder Lindir's words after the messenger elf had respectfully bowed and taken his leave. The sinking feeling inside their chest was growing by the minute until they could no longer bear it and decided to head to the gardens to find the elf whose presence they found themselves craving like never before.

The gardens were indeed deserted, just like Y/N knew they would be, save for the darkhaired elf sitting on the cold stony steps with the light of the moon illuminating his sorrowful face. Y/N stood there quietly as they admired the lone elf, with his head tilted back in a way that looked like he was gazing up at the stars. Y/N couldn't help but admire him and how utterly serene he looked, clad in moonlight and the warm summer air, Lindir appeared to be someone straight out of a magical tale.

"You shouldn't be here," Lindir sighed as he dropped his gaze, the current sight of him taking on a form of sadness and grief. Suddenly the air around them felt charged with sorrow and despair, prompting an involuntary shudder to course throughout Y/N's entire body. They took a step towards the sitting elf and shook their head as if to shake off the feeling of foreboding.

"I know. I should be enjoying the festivities, dancing, and singing the night away with you," Y/N tried to sound cheery despite the altogether depressing chill in the air around them. Yet when Lindir failed to respond, it only added to the gloomy cloud looming above them. Y/N waited for him to say something, most anything, but Lindir never so much as gave an audible breath, let alone utter a single syllable. Y/N's body shuddered again as their mind was racing with possible ideas of what was causing Lindir's brooding levels to surpass even those of lord Elrond.

"I fear you have have been spending too much time with lord Elrond for-," Y/N started but was interrupted by Lindir's soft voice.

"I am leaving Rivendell," the darkhaired elf announced suddenly yet did not seem interested in giving Y/N a further explanation of why or for how long, or where he would even go. Y/N blinked in surprise save for the sinking feeling in their stomach that had told them earlier that something bad was going to transpire.

"Why?" Y/N took notice of how quiet and uncertain their voice sounded as they demanded to know the cause for Lindir's sudden departure. They felt their heart begin to pound faster, driven on by the fear of losing the one they had been relying on for company and comfort.
