Chapter 11

Over the next few days, everything had been pretty quiet. Until Hermione and Ron got made into prefects.

I stared at the scarlet banner Mrs. Weasley was hanging up in the basement:

CONGRATULATIONS RON AND HERMIONE NEW PREFECTS

Fred nudged me,

“I still can’t believe ickle Ronnie is a prefect.”

I laughed,

“Aw, don’t be mean. I reckon he’s going to do a good job.”

“Yeah. Ron and Hermione will be perfect prefects together.”

We both chuckled at the thought.

Everyone else came into the room, and we all started to shovel food onto our plates. Harry looked a bit grumpy. I sat down next to him,

“Why do you look so sad?”

He shrugged, and looked away, at Ron and Hermione instead. I put my arm around him,

“Don’t worry that you’re not a prefect, Harry. Professor Dumbledore probably thought you had enough on your plate already. And I don’t mean food.”

He cracked a smile,

“Let’s hope that’s the case.”

I nodded, and went to go and sit down next to Fred again. Mr. Weasley raised his goblet,

“To Ron and Hermione, the new Gryffindor prefects!”

Everyone applauded and the new prefects beamed.

Fred shook his head,

“It’s enough to make you feel sick. My own brother is a prefect. Having Percy as a prefect was hard enough. Now it’s Ron. It’s going to-”

I interrupted him,

“Ruin your precious reputation!”

“Ava! You know very well I take pride in myself.”

He got up with George to trade something with Mundungus. Ginny sat down next to me,

“I hope I’m a prefect next year. It would be nice.”

I grinned,

“I reckon you will, you’re well behaved.”

“You would have been a Gryffindor prefect, I’m sure.”

I shrugged,

“Well, I’d have to be in Gryffindor first. I really hope I am.”

She nodded,

“Of course you will! You are a classic Gryffindor. You remind me a lot of Harry.”

I laughed,

“That would be because he’s my brother.”

Fred walked towards me and held his hand out,

“Would you care to dance to the non-existent music with me?”

I stood up and took his hand,

“I’d love to.”

He placed his hands on my hips, and I put my arms around his neck,

“Fred Weasley, I never saw you as much of a dancer.”

He looked at me and smiled softly,

“I don’t think I was much of a dancer before I met you.”

My heart fluttered in my chest.

My eyes met with his, and we started to lean towards eachother. He pressed his soft, velvety lips against mine. Fireworks exploded in my chest. My whole body felt hot.

He pulled back and smiled at me. I grinned,

“I don’t think I was much of a kisser before I met you.”

I noticed the room was quiet around me. My cheeks flushed bright red when I realised Harry, Ron and Hermione were staring at us with grins on their faces.

On the other side of the room, I saw George wink at Fred. I whispered,

“I didn’t know everyone was watching.”

He held onto my hand and pulled me out of the room,

“I guess we were the entertainment.”

Ginny followed us out,

“You two! I knew it was going to happen! It was so obvious!”

I giggled,

“Ginny! Try not to embarrass us!”

She just shook her head and skipped away,

“Everyone knew it was coming!”
