Chapter 29

I smiled at Hermione,

“It’s been good to catch up with you, but I’m really tired. I think I’ll probably go to bed now.”

Ginny nodded in agreement,

“As much as I love girly chats, I’m pretty sure I’m going to fall asleep any second.”

I laughed and climbed into bed, pulling the duvet around me tightly. I whispered,

“Goodnight guys.”

They both replied,

“Goodnight Ava.”

I smiled and closed my eyes, pushing my head into my soft pillow. I’d had a good day. Decorating with Sirius had been fun. Testing out pranks with the twins had been hilarious. Now I was glad that Harry was happier again.

Things seemed to be getting better.

“James, what’s going on?”

My father pulled his wand out,

“Lily, take Harry and Ava upstairs. Please.”

My mother grabbed my hand and pulled me up the stairs, still holding Harry with her other hand.

We walked into my bedroom. I heard shouting from downstairs, and I whimpered. My mother looked down at me,

“Ava- stay silent. Don’t move.”

“Mummy, what’s going on?”

She stroked my hair,

“I love you. So does your father. We both love you so very much.”

We both heard footsteps getting closer. I hid behind the cot,

“I love you and Daddy too.”

My mother ran out of the room, still holding Harry tightly.

I gasped quietly as my father ran into the room. He looked scared.

Lord Voldemort walked in behind him, a smile playing at his lips. He looked around the room,

“Where is the boy?”

My father shook his head,

“I won’t tell you. Never.”

I came out from behind the cot and walked towards my father. He whispered,

“Ava, no. Stay safe.”

Lord Voldemort shook his head,

“The girl is no use to me. She isn’t strong. Not like him. I can feel it. Tell me where your son is, or I kill the girl.”

I gulped. What did he mean I wasn’t any use to him?

I whimpered as he pulled his wand out and pointed it at me.

My father took a deep breath,

“I won’t let you hurt either of my children.”

Lord Voldemort smirked,

“You shall regret that. AVADA KEDAVRA!”

I screamed as a green light flashed before me. My father jumped out in front of me, and his body fell to the ground. I started to cry, and ran to hide behind the cot.

Voldemort looked around for me, but not for very long. He didn’t need me.

He walked into the next room. There was another flash of green light, and I heard Harry cry.
