That time the rose was blue.
Michal delivered it in person. There was no note. It was just Michal's hand holding the rose out to Jennifer, who took it, smiling.
The rose was light, and the creases of the petals dipped into a deeper, richer blue, reminding Jennifer of Alice in Wonderland.
When Jennifer smiled, Michal's smile widened, and after she took the rose, he offered to take her out for coffee. They had never gone out for coffee before.
"What about your own gourmet coffee?" Jen asked, smelling the rose.
"Oh, we've had that before," Michal responded as Jen opened the door more.
"And besides, I want to prove to you that my coffee really is the best," he added.
That was a good date.
