Jen woke up one night.
Usually Jen woke up during the night because of her ADHD, but not like this. This time was different. She was really awake.
Jennifer stumbled to the phone wanting to call her mom, just her mom.
She wasn't crazy, right?
The phone rang. Rang. Rang. It stopped. Jen started talking anyway.
"So, mom, I was just calling to see if you were home. I couldn't sleep. Mom, it's not like I thought it would be. It's not nice here.
"I thought it would be all nice and pretty but no, it can't be that way. Mom, I think Chris is watching me. He moved in, after- Mom-" Jen felt her voice crack as she dropped the phone, shaking and crying.
Jen held Marci that night.
