Chapter 14: Macarons

Everyone is having fun at dinner. Zee and the rest of the senior football team are seated on one table, while Nu and the others are seated at another table opposite to them.

“Are you sure nothing really happened there?” James asks Nu again for the nth time. 

Nu sighs. “I am more than sure that nothing happened there , Hia. I am more brave than you can think of.” Nu drinks his shake, not bothering to raise the cup. 

“I am thankful that the event went well for all of us.” Prem raises his glass for a toast. . 

All around the table raises theirs too. 

The song suddenly shifts from pop to mellow, most of the couples are dancing in front of the stage.

Net asked James for a dance which he gladly accepted. Max and Nat, Tutor and Yim, Prem and Boun follow them. 

It was only him and Amara who were left on the table. 

Clarence comes and asks him to dance but Nhu politely declines. 

“Mar, do you want to visit grandma?” Nu asks his sister. 

“I was about to ask you if you could take me there, I am glad you asked, Hia.” Amara smiles at him. 

“Let me just get the key from Hia Net and then we can go. Do you still need to go up to the hotel room to pick up something?” Nu stands up and picks up his phone on the table. 

“Nope, I have all that I need right here.” Amara shakes his phone and earpods. “I'll just wait in the car.”  Amara went on first. 

Nu nodded his head and went on to Net and asked for the car key. 

“Are they gonna leave already?” Park asks no one in particular and is looking at Nu. 

"I guess so." Jimmy says as he stands up. 

“Where are you going?” Poppy asked him. 

“Just wanna say goodbye to my son.” Jimmy puts his bottle of beer on the table and walks towards Nu. 

“Are you not going to say goodbye too?” Park asks Zee who is looking intently at Nu. 

“I don’t think I needed to.” He consumes what is left on his wine glass and stands up too. 

“I’ll take a leave you guys enjoy the rest of the night.” He left the table without waiting for the answer. 

“I was just about to interrogate him. He really knows the perfect timing to escape.” Park pours wine on his glass.

“You know that he hates people who ask him questions without prior notice.” Tommy says as he grabs a handful of chips that were just served. “But he is becoming mysterious over time and with that kid. I was surprised he didn’t answer any of us at that time.” He pops a chip into his mouth. 

“No one can blame him though. He still cared about Nhu after all these years. His safety and protection is always a priority.” Poppy hands to Park a clean tissue.

“I can’t remember when he started keeping secrets to us.” Tommy asks them. 

“It started when he knew he was going to Switzerland.” 

They all looked at the person who was talking. 

“Mark!” 

“You are so late.” Park gives him a man hug.
