Chapter 3: Birthday Surprise?

Everything is already set up for the surprise. Except for a few touches.

Amara is fixing the banner that fell off from the table. While Tutor and Net fix the main cake at the center table.

"So how does it look?" Net ask while trying to adjust the cake a little.

"It looks wonderful." James replied while looking at Net.

"He meant the arrangement on the table, James." Prem said as he rolled his eyes.

"Yeah it is wonderful. The arrangement is what I meant too." James tried to explain.

Prem smirks, then pointed at James' face. "I know you, so don't try to make excuses."

James leans far so that Prem's finger won't hit his face.

"That is enough, you two. They are almost here!" Amara says excitedly.

"Yim don't forget to turn off the lights once I give the signal." Nu instructed him.

Yim nodded.

Nu checks his phone one last time. "Okay they are here. Yim please."

Yim immediately turns off the lights.

It was so dark that it was difficult to see. Nu stands near the library door so that he can't be seen from the front.

He turned on the flashlight. "Yimmy please help me light the candles."

Nu hands to Yim the small cake. He was about to light the candle when they heard someone whisper from the back.

"Is everything ready?"

"Ahhhhh..."

Nu jumps out of fright. Yim almost threw the cake towards the person.

"Goodness! P'Max! Don't do something like that next time. I almost had a heart attack." Nu says while holding his chest.

"Sorry." Max apologizes.

"Where is Nat and P'Boun?" Nu asked him.

"They are still outside. Boun is waiting for the signal." He explains.

"Ah..ahh. Here." Yim hands him the cake. Then he goes and joins the others who are behind the party table.

"I'll guide you to the center." Nu then turned off the flashlight. Leaving only the candle as their source of light.

"Is this the cake where I requested to put it?" Max asks Nu.

"No. I baked another one. Are you ready?" Nu asks him back.

"Yes."

Nu leaves him there and joins the others as well.

All of them can hear Boun and Nat come in from the front door of the cafè.

"Do you know where the lights are located, Phi?" Nat asked Boun.

But He was no longer with him. Boun joined Prem who was standing by the near end of the table.

"Phi Boun?" Nat calls in.

No answer. His heart starts to beat so fast.

Then Max comes out with the cake and starts singing.

"Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you..." Max walks in and into the center of the room.

Lights in the room slowly turned on showing all of them.
