CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
shit talk
•IT was already at 4,000 views, though it's only been up for five minutes. it was also 5am and even though she's exhausted, charlotte couldn't stop staring at the published article. gracie was sound asleep in her arms, having fallen asleep in the comfy back of the car. charlottes phone was blowing up, but there were not texts from her parents since they probably weren't awake yet, which was making her nervous as fuck.
her fingers rapidly tapped against the laptop, shaking and waiting on the shitty service for the comments to start rolling on. unfortunately, she was making too much noise and gracie began to stir.
she whined in annoyance of the tapping and squeezed charlotte tighter, "charry," she tiredly slurred out.
"sorry," charlotte whispered and slide the laptop away from herself. "go back to sleep."
within a split second gracie fell back asleep with charlotte brushing her locks out of her face. she looked to the laptop again and felt the urge again to pull it close, but it was like as if gracie could sense that somehow because she snuggled her head against charlottes chest and tightly kept in her place, preventing her from reaching forwards because if she did she would surely wake her back up. so instead, she had no choice but to sink into the pillows, wrap an arm around her girl and close her eyes.

"charlotte," gracie's thumb caressed the singers cheekbone as she held her cheek. "wake up," she softly sang.
charlotte leaned her head into gracie's palm, ignoring her.
"the articles out."
"i know," charlotte mumbled, rolling over and pulling the blanket overtop her head. "now let me sleep."
"i really thought you'd be more awake with this but i guess i forgot you have the sleep schedule of a dog," gracie muttered and shook her shoulder. "come onnnnn."
charlotte yelled in agony into the pillow before finally rolling back over and placing her head in gracie's lap, "can you drive?"
"sure," gracie replied. "um, your parents have been spamming you." she placed charlottes phone on her chest.
charlotte opened her eyes and brought the screen to her face, revealing about thirty texts from each parent, "wow..."
they were on a rampage as it seems. her dad said things like: 'have you checked the news?'
'charlotte, someone made an article about everything going on.'
'you need to contact your lawyers.'
'everyone's furious with me and your mother somehow, you need to make a statement clearing everything up.'
'charlotte answer me!'"they have no clue we made the article," charlotte began to smirk. "and it worked. people are actually starting to hate them."
"phase one complete," gracie chuckled. "it's like the number one thing trending, so i bet it won't take them long to change."
"hopefully."
"there's a new hashtag too, #hereforcharlotte."
"as cringe as that sounds, that's kinda amazing how fast people switched up."
"just proves how much people love us now," gracie giggled. "and if my parents have seen it i guarantee they're already forming a soft spot for you."
charlotte almost forgot about how today she's actually meeting them. gracie noticed that exact realization.
